The Photography Center of the Capital District The Photography Center of the Capital District LLC offers opportunities to develop skills and knowle A shooting studio is also available for our members!

The PhotoCenter Gallery exhibits a variety of imagery including; contemporary images, theme exhibitions, member’s work, regional and international photographers
The PhotoCenter Library is dedicated to art and photography. It is a reading/research floor with over eight thousand books and collections of periodicals past and current;
The Photography Center of the Capital District Museum holds display

s of many historical cameras and images dating back more than 100 years;
The PhotoCenter store sells gently used photographic equipment including; cameras, printers, lenses, flashes, accessories and books. Equipped with backgrounds, props, and various lighting setups. Computer workstations with a variety of peripherals and photographic software are available for use as well as equipment for do-it-yourself photographing, editing, printing, scanning, mounting, matting, exhibition assembling and more! Monthly activity schedule with featured PhotoCenter nights, workshops and private tutorials covering the spectrum of photography; and
Annual member exhibition and publication opportunities are also some of our unique features.

The Photography Center of the Capital District is excited to announce The 2020 & 2021 Double Annual Member's Show!
This re-inauguration of the Members Show has been very gratifying, both because of the response and for the superb quality of the work and presentations.
The PhotoCenter's Members Shows have never had any specific theme -- All subjects are welcomed.
We have been fortunate for the past 3 years to have the extraordinary organizational talent of Associate Director Adam Putnam.
It is gratifying to see many of the traditional subjects so expertly represented - nature, abstracts, portraits, travel, as well as color or geometric patterns. Additionally, two other themes have also emerged:
1. How to create a sense of motion or time in a single flat image. #1, #36, #37
2.Works inspired by or affected by COVID constraints. #15, #20, #21, #34, #35, #36, #37, #38, #39

Hello all!
Today we are spotlighting the Minolta SR-T201. Minolta first introduced the SR-T series in 1966 and the SR-T201 was introduced in 1975. This camera is fully mechanical and only requires a battery for metering. Additionally, this camera has shutter speeds up to 1/1000th of a second.

Hello all!
This week we are spotlighting the Mamiya C3. This twin lens reflex was one of few that offered interchangeable lenses. This version has the 108mm telephoto lens used extensively for portraiture. This model was released in 1962 as a part of the Mamiya C series. This series being first developed geared towards the interest of professionals such as wedding photographers. This image here sports a telephoto lens and magnifying view finder.

Today we are spotlighting the Polaroid Sun 600 Instant Film Camera. The Polaroid Sun 600 Instant Film Camera in 1981 along with the Sun Autofocus 660 and the Sun 640 camera with built-in and light-management. This camera is representative the 5th generation in instant film Polaroid technology.

Visitors to the Photography Center tonight have a special event to enjoy -- The Troy Night Out opening of the

breathtaking exhibit Ghana's Spirit Children: Photographs by Carrie Brown.
Tonight the Okropion Dance and Drum Ensemble will perform at 7 P.M. (yes, live African drumming in the
Gallery).

With her images, Carrie has depicted a predominantly maternal world in the villages of Ghana. In the course
of working for the past ten years to better the lives of disabled children in a culture that often rejects them and
ignores their manifold needs, she has shown us intimate moments with sensitive perception.

Carrie's day-to-day interactions with these truncated families (fathers absent themselves from any association
with or responsibility for a disabled child) have allowed her to record these moments of happiness and love
amid the pathos of the circumstances.

The devotion of mother to child has rarely been photographed in more sensitive detail than in this collection
of images.

The Photography Center of the Capital District is pleased to assist in the 2018 fund-raising efforts of Carrie's
not-for-profit organization, Kekeli, Inc., with this exhibition and the publication of its catalog. During the exhibit,
signed books and signed photographs are available for very modest contributions to Kekeli, Inc.
