Help! Does anyone recognize this Troy building? Longish story..the Museum is getting new carpet, and while we were moving items around an old photo envelope from a past business in Libby, Photo Express, was found lodged between the wall and a shelf. We don't know where these apartments were (or are) located..I've asked around, and these were ideas...
*The Lake Creek Inn
*The apartments on Mineral Avenue
*The old apartments where The Cut n Crew sat next to Gamble, would have been 2nd street.
Any longtimers here recognise it?
Or the gentleman with his bird harvest?!

This unit was the "entire" U.S. Post Office in Troy Montana from the late 1800's to 1950. The Post Office was remodeled in 1950 and this unit was replaced by newer boxes. All the doors open but require combinations. The back side has some visible names still. The larger boxes were for Troy School District, Montana , J. NEILS LBR CO., and Coffman Motors. The far left box is too faded to read. Recognize anyone?? (Note, this was possibly from the old Acco cable building, as we were told the USPO was located there at one time)

Theodore Roosevelt Highway, Highway 2.

Not only did the highway contribute to the growth of businesses along its route, it also fostered economic opportunities for towns and cities that were previously isolated. And, perhaps more importantly, the route became a symbol of America's commitment to connecting its diverse landscapes and foste...

Frances I. Walker was born in Deer Park, Washington on February 23, 1910. He passed at age 83. He spent most of his life in Troy on his buckboard wagon, guided in and out of town by one of his many trusted horses. His death certificate lists him as a logger, but many knew him as the trash man. Kids and ladies alike enjoyed to ride along, as seen in this well loved picture on loan from his widow of Troy, Linda Walker. We have a few stories from the "Grit" newspaper and "The Barter Times", along with a few other pictures of Frances here. Stop by and browse, learn more about "The Buckboard Trashman" before the end of the season, this Friday.

This little box..it had a story to tell and was just waiting to be discovered, in an attack, at 306 E. Mineral Avenue in Troy. When Don and Patti Arnold Banning bought this home, this little box was discovered in their attic by a family member. It is mentioned, in a round-of-bout way, in Jim Calvi''s first books, "Early Days and Historic Times of Troy Montana", Troy Heritage Series, Number 1. In 1903, Mr Wood constructed a new building on Front Street (Yahk Avenue). Which house the mercantile store and post office. In 1906, the Troy experienced it's first major fire, and his store was lost."Stanly wood, fourteen years old, started up the post office the next day near the family home".

From Mr Calvi's book: skipping ahead to 1927, an article from the Troy Tribune dated July 22, 1927: "Depot Mail box has restrictions for use" Postmaster Mizell received an order for the mail box at the depot between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:45 p.m, except in a case of emergencies when the mail sacks for a train have been closed at the post office and the letter can be mailed on the intended train by dropping it in the depot mail box, or when the post office is closed"

And here we have the Troy depot mail box.
Thank you again, Patti, for your donation.

What do you think? Is the ghost of Frank Thorton still crying?

Life time resident Jerry Hudlow recently donated this saddle. The saddle is used to help deliver mail in the early 1900s in the Yaak community. From what Jerry recalls, and we gathered, a Sylvernite resident and local forest service ranger, one of the same, of Sylvernite, made the deliveries by horse once the mail reached his location. Thank you Jerry, for thinking of us.
