Truckee Donner Railroad Society Our mission is to preserve, interpret, and educate the public about Truckee’s rich and colorful railroad history. We welcome you all aboard!

We operate the Truckee Railroad Museum in the caboose downtown and the riding railroad in the Truckee River Regional Park. There are many great ways to get involved with the Truckee Donner Railroad Society including working as a docent at the museum, volunteering to help restore the society's rolling stock, attending business meetings, or just talking trains with people who understand your passion

about all things railroad. Truckee Railroad Museum:
The Truckee Railroad Museum is located in the caboose located next to the Train Depot in Downtown Truckee. The museum tells the story of railroads in and around Truckee and their impact on the Town. Railroads have been an integral part of Truckee, from the initial survey parties for the First Transcontinental Railroad, through the variety of logging railroads, and on to the tourist, commuter, and freight railroading of today. The museum uses railroad artifacts, dioramas, pictures and text displays to convey the impact of various types of railroads on Truckee. It also provides a glimpse of what will come with a permanent museum home.

The Railroad Society's "Truckee 1927" model railroad will be set up in the north hall of the Steve Randall Community Recreation Center from September 17th through November 19th. We'll be running trains and talking about Truckee's railroad history every Friday afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00 during the exhibit.
