RioBravoFineArt’s opening show for Second Saturday Art Hop on September 12 from 6 to 9 pm is a dual artist show by Tauna Cole and Nolan Winkler. Both artists present artwork that reflects their personal creation process.

Winkler’s work for this show has no thematic element. Rather, her work reflects her emotional content connecting her with the world as she creates a particular piece. Her work in this show continues her journey with color and “mark making,” where mark making can be interpreted as Winkler’s use of graphic elements to create strikingly definitive images. Nolan’s work covers the gamut of the color palette, and the energy in her brushwork and mark making is unmistakably hers.

Cole’s pieces for this exhibition are from her current body of work, “The Breath Guides the Mark.” Cole’s experiences with yoga and meditation have made her sensitive to the importance of breathing to her interoception. She describes interoception as being the collection of senses providing information to an organism about the internal state of the body. She sees her breathing as being part of a meditative experience that can guide the creation of her artwork. The artist states that, for this series, “there is an intention to create a mark that is in sync with the inhale and with the exhale. Attention is paid to moving the brush or drawing tool with each inhale and exhale. It becomes an embodied experience; the breath affects the movement of my brush, and it becomes meditative.”

The intriguing work of Winkler and Cole is on display through October 25. For the show opening, music will be provided by the RGee Trio.

Border Artists exhibition at Rio Bravo

Opening August 8, 2026 during Art Hop 6:00 – 9:00 pm

RioBravoFineArt, 110 North Broadway, Truth of Consequences, presents the annual Borders Artists exhibition. Approximately twenty artists present a superb selection of wall art, sculpture and other media. Border Artists, a group of fine artists in southern New Mexico and El Paso, Texas, was formed in late 1990 to increase visibility and recognition for their artwork. With the success of the group, they continued to add new members. In 1995, they formed a non-profit artist association. Membership is by invitation.

Because the arts are integral to the cultural life of a community, the Border Artists are committed to creating artwork and sharing their art through exhibitions and educational events. The Border Artists exhibitions are often fundraisers for other local not-for-profit groups. The group awards several artistic scholarships for high school and university students each year.

RGee Trio will provide music, a mixture of pop and rock classics shaped with a light jazz style during the show’s opening. The Border Artists show runs through October 25, 2026.

Olin B. West’s show, Timescapes, a series of exceptional paintings, continues through August. Art Hop’s opening show on September 12 is a joint exhibition featuring Tauna Cole and Nolan Winkler, two members of the Border Artists group.

Paintings from Timescapes by Olin B. West are the opening show at RioBravoFineArt, 110 North Broadway, Truth or Consequences, for Second Saturday Art Hop on July 11, 2026, 6 to 9 pm.

West was born in Paris, Texas but raised on the plains of Wyoming. After graduating from high school, he lived in various Western cities before finally settling in Santa Fe in 1976. He used his silversmithing and beadwork skills in the making of wearable art to establish himself as a New Mexico artist. After a very successful time as an artist in Santa Fe, he moved his studio to Truth or Consequences in 1997 to devote his full time to painting.

In Timescapes, precisely crafted marks (or tabs) overlay a subtle background. The tabs represent a discrete unit of time for the artist during the creation process, and the background represent whatever influences there are during the creation, such as distractions, emotions and environmental influences. The result of this creative approach are paintings with a subtle grace, a contemplative nature, and visual richness. This series represents an exceptional expression of West’s artistic vision, and RioBravoFineArt is exceedingly proud to have this show of the Timescapes series as a part of the gallery’s long running history.

The end of summer and fall Art Hop openings will include the Border Artists, August 8, Nolan Winkler and Tauna Dorn, September 12, Diane Presser, October 25, and Donna Monroe, November 14, the annual fiber art show at RioBravoFineArt.

The West show runs through August 28, 2026. Music during the West show opening will be provided by the RGee Trio.

06/08/2026

The opening show at RioBravoFineArt, 110 North Broadway, Truth or Consequences, on June 13, 6 to 9 pm, will feature four new artists for the gallery, Karen Ahlgren, Karen Argeanas, Jeffrey Schmitt, and Andy Young. The show will also feature some new works by two of the regular gallery artists – Ricky Padilla and Suzanne Pointon.

Three of the new artists explore the wonders of the Southwest, each in a unique way. Ahlgren presents vivid images of the Southwest fauna using watercolor on gouache. Argeanas paints the Southwestern landscape, both built and natural, in a style reflective of much of the sparsity of the desert environment. Young uses strong coloration and bold geometric shapes in his landscape images. The fourth new artist, Schmitt, brings a new aspect, glass art, to the eclectic collection of art at the gallery. Schmitt is a longtime New Mexico glass artist whose featured work in the show will include several wall hangings.

Pointon and Padilla have been busy as of late with work exploring new techniques and subject matter. The show by Dina D’Argo, Running with the Wolves, is being extended through June, and D’Argo will be present at the June Art Hop opening show. Music will be provided by the RGee Trio.
