The Territorial Pharmacist by Greg Singley was commissioned when the artist visited the museum for inspiration for another painting. The museum curator, Dick Wiedhopf, was so impressed that he requested another painting be made. If you look carefully, you can see items located on display in the spaces neighboring the interpretive gallery. Schedule an extended tour to see them for yourself!

Fun Pharmacy Fact! In 1956, A Kiss before Dying, starring Robert Wagner and Joanne Woodward was filmed in Tucson. One important scene took place in the UA College of Pharmacy building. Curious about how headaches were fought over 100 years ago? This headache cologne from Llewellyn Chemist of Philadelphia, was applied to the body rather than swallowed; a wise decision since it is 95% alcohol! Marked at $2.50 a bottle, it would be priced today at $88.

Anyone touring the museum has heard about Jesse Hurlbut, but not many know about his wife. Mary Hurlbut was a great supporter of the museum, encouraging him to donate their collection during his lifetime, helping to catalog objects and curate the museum in it's early years, and donating her estate to the museum.
