Explore Old Time Farming Practices at the Turtle Lake Museum
How did they get this much hay through that barn door? This is the Moon Lake Valley Stock Farm in 1948 prior to 1951 when the silo was put up. If you are finished haying, or just need a break, come and visit the Turtle Lake Museum this weekend, August 8 & 9 and see interesting displays of old farming equipment. It is open from 10:00 to 4:00 on Saturday and Sunday, and is located in the old Lampert’s Lumber Yard at 232 Willow Street. The Museum’s all-volunteer staff looks forward to telling you about Turtle Lake’s past, and showing you interesting photos and objects from the area. Free Admission – Donations Welcome.

It was a great opening weekend at the Turtle Lake Museum. Visitors included those from near and far, including the Twin Cities, Ashland, Red Wing, Milwaukee, Maryland, Canada and more. Comments have been very complimentary. Come join us and view our new and updated displays, including one of Turtle Lakes original fire trucks (1929 Chevrolet) on loan from our local American Legion. Learn about our upcoming major projects. Join our growing group of volunteers and get involved in our local history. We are open the 2nd and 3rd weekends of the month, June to September, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Contact us for special events like class or family reunions. Turtle Lake Museum to Open for the 2026 Season
It’s time to visit the Turtle Lake Museum and remember our history. The United States of America was founded 250 years ago. At that time, our area was covered by tall pine forests. There were pristine lakes, diverse plants and animals, and a large population of native people. Fur trappers came later followed by loggers. The building of the railroad accelerated logging and eventually led to farmers coming to the cleared land. See what happened next by checking out the exhibits at the museum.
The Museum opens on June 13th and is located in the old Lampert’s Lumber Yard at 232 Willow Street. The all-volunteer staff looks forward to telling you about Turtle Lake’s past, and showing you fun photos and interesting objects from the area.
The Museum will be open the 2nd and 3rd weekends of the month from June through September. Admission is free, donations are gratefully accepted. If you have a special event such as a class or family reunion that falls on a day when the Museum isn't normally open, contact Dave Skrupky at 715-986-2547 to arrange a special tour.
