Sorry for the previous post with no explanation. Evidently facebook doesn't want me to add more pictures. So I'll try it another way. Anyway, this quilt has a story. My daughter Dana Thiebaut pieced the top about 30 years ago, when her kids were small. She had it all marked for hand quilting, then put it away. I assume life got in the way with 3 small active boys. Last week she dragged it out of a cupboard and handed it to me. "I don't care what you do with it."
When I opened it up I saw a stain on it and when I checked further, there was a handful of BACON hidden in there, dried and hard, but it left a grease stain in 2 places. No idea how it got there. Maybe one of the kids stuck it in the bag. Big mystery. Anyway I was unsuccessful in removing the stain completely, but I decided to go ahead and quilt it anyway. Lots of white space for feathers and such. Now it's all finished and I will show it to her tomorrow night. She might want it now! If not one of her children or grandchildren might.

Ninepatches abound in this scrappy baby/toddler quilt. Back is a mottled purple soft and cuddly flannel. Disclaimer: While no quilt is perfect, this one has an obvious mistake in the quilting. I got off the row and a section near the top has a gap in the quilting. It will in no way affect the

Elsie’s bio

Elsie Vredenburg is probably best known for her pictorial pieced quilts, which are often combined with elements of traditional patchwork designs. She has developed a method of designing in which all elements of the design are converted to straight lines. This makes for somewhat of an angular look, which is characteristic of her pictorial quilts. Subject matter ranges from architectural to people to the animal world.

Elsie’s quilts have appeared in many national and international quilt shows, including American Quilter’s Society, National Quilting Association, National Patchwork Association (Great Britain), Quilt Expo Europa, Quilters Heritage Society, Quilt America, International Quilters Association. They have also appeared in The American Quilter Magazine, Quilters Newsletter Magazine, Lady’s Circle Patchwork Quilts, Quilting Today, and Traditional Quiltworks.

Elsie is a native of Michigan. She received her BA in Home Economics Education from Michigan State University in 1963, and taught Home Economics at the high school level for a few years, then decided it was more important to stay at home with her young children. Her quilting career began at that time as a way to add a little bit to the family income while staying at home. She learned to quilt while still in high school, at the insistence of her grandmother.

Over the years, Quilts by Elsie has evolved from its beginnings as an exhibitor at arts and crafts festivals, to displaying quilts in regional and national shows (winning a few ribbons, too), to having an online presence via her website www.quiltsbyelsie.com , etsy shop, and facebook; her current emphasis is longarm quilting for others.
