This Saturday the 20th will be my last day for regular gallery hours 10-5 for this year. I will still be available by appointment. Next spring I'll resume regular hours at the gallery. I hope to be occasionally posting some new works from the forge throughout the winter.
Happy Holidays

A customer recently sent me photos of a chandelier that I built once it was installed in their house. It's rather large. The measurements are 48" in diameter and hangs down 72". The weight is 60 #. The wiring is all 14 gauge and is totally concealed within the body. There are 22 dimmable Led bulbs that draw a total of 120watts. I documented most of the process.

A pair of decorative rings with plates. As I write this they are on their way to the Caribbean where they'll be mounted on stone driveway columns. The mounting plate is 15" x 10" and 1/2" thick. The rings were forged from 1&1/2" round stock heated and tapered in the forge. Each plate and ring weigh 30lbs.

This was a fun project. It's a retirement gift. The top is 16" in diameter. From the floor to the table top it measures 20". The three hummingbirds are hand forged and the roses are made of copper. The leaves and vines are also hand forged. I used a clear coat of enamel for the finish.

Yesterday Lauren and I attended a lecture at Northrup Auditorium on the campus of the University of Minnesota campus. We were guests of the Carlson Family Foundation who along with the Humphrey School of Political Policy host the Distinguished Carlson Lecture Series. I was invited because I had created the presentation gift for the guest speaker Dr. Anthony Fauci. A man who served seven administrations from Reagan to Biden. In front of a capacity crowd he spoke of the necessity for science to steer health policy. It made me sad to think how far this administration had strayed from that common sense approach.

In the forge I have several buckets of cut offs. Mostly I use them to polish other ironwork by placing them together in an old cement mixer. Occasionally I'll root through the buckets for a little scrap piece rather than cut a larger piece of metal. It's an interesting assortment of bits. A lot of the time I can even remember from which project the piece came. In this 7" x 9" frame I featured a few of the bits. Bits #1

A fun project. Coffee table made from recycled metal. The customer wanted it funky and riveted. Dimensions 36" long, 14" high and 14" wide. Kinda looks like a strong box from a stagecoach.

I completed this table last November and shipped it out. A little back story. While out fishing on Lake Superior last summer I received a call from the Caribbean. At first I thought "scam" but the fish weren't biting so I did. The caller requested a coffee table. It was to be 5' in diameter and 15 " tall. He had a picture of one similar to the style that he'd like. Imagine something you'd find in a pirate's den. Old and beat up. The following pictures show the process.
