The Tyler Museum of Art is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. There is also a library, classroom, café, and gift shop.

The Tyler Museum of Art exists as an educational and cultural center to enrich the lives of East Texas citizens and visitors through the collection, preservation, study, exhibition, interpretation, and celebration of the visual arts. The Museum is housed today in an award-winning structure nestled on a tree-shaded site, adjacent to the campus of Tyler Junior College. The building contains two majo

r exhibition galleries on the ground floor, the North Gallery and the Bell Gallery. The Tyler Museum of Art's growing permanent collection features paintings, prints, photographs, and sculpture by artists such as James Surls, Vernon Fisher, Alexander Calder, Terry Allen, and Charles Umlauf.

Unveiled at last week's anniversary gala, "Tyler Museum of Art - Cascade" was commissioned as part of our 55th anniversary celebration.

Created by Texas artist Kyle Hobratschk, who was on site earlier this year to make an initial plein air sketch, the etching celebrates the institution's unique architecture.

The etching was produced in an edition of 30 and is available for $300 (plus tax). All of the edition's proceeds directly benefit our General Acquisitions Fund.

'Keith Carter's Peaceable Kingdom: Photographs from the Wittliff Collections' opens to the public this Friday, May 29!

TMA Members are invited to an exhibition preview reception on Thursday, May 28 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. To RSVP, please call (903) 595-1001.

Reception attendees will have the opportunity to take home a copy of 'Keith Carter: Fifty Years.' Attendees can register for the door prize until remarks at 6:00 p.m., when the drawing will be held. The winner must be in attendance.

'Summer Studios' will start on Wednesday, June 3 in the TMA Classroom! From 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. every Wednesday in June and July, our Education Department will host an art activity for all ages. Light refreshments will be provided.

This is a 'come and go' event. Please note that children should remain accompanied at all times.

Admission to the museum will also be free every Wednesday in June and July.

Join us this Sunday, May 17 for a community closing reception celebrating the '22nd Annual High School Art Exhibition' artists and educators. At 2:30 p.m., the 'Best in Show', 'Viewers' Choice' and merit award winners will be announced.

Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free.

We are excited to present our next 'Encased' exhibition, which opens on Tuesday, May 12!

Be sure to stop by the TMA Lobby Display Case to view the work of Galveston-based ceramicist Jessica Ninci. The careful recreations of items she has gathered along the coastline will be on view through Sunday, August 30.

An artist 'Meet and Greet' will take place on Friday, August 21 at 10:30 a.m. in the TMA Lobby. This event is free and open to the public with coffee and donuts provided.

She will also be at our TMA Members' Reception on Thursday, August 20 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Meet us in the TMA Classroom tomorrow, May 9 between 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. for 'Family Day'! All ages are invited to come create Surrealist-inspired 'Creature Cravings'. The art activity and admission to both galleries is free. Light refreshments are also provided.

The museum's book club, 'Visual Language', will meet in the TMA Classroom tomorrow, May 3 at 2:30 p.m. to discuss 'Double Click: Twin Photographers in the Golden Age of Magazines' by Carol Kino!

Free and open to all current TMA Members, come join in on the discussion whether or not you have finished the book.

Meet the Artist / Friday, May 1 at 10:30 a.m.: Join us in the TMA Lobby to hear 'Encased' artist Angel Oloshove talk about her work. Coffee and donuts will be provided.

Tour Notes / Friday, May 1 at 2:00 p.m.: This free guided tour will take a close look at the works in 'At 55: Recent Acquisitions & Exhibition Highlights', ‘22nd Annual High School Art Exhibition’, and 'Encased: Angel Oloshove.'

Sketch Club / Friday, May 1 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.: Come sketch with other artists in the TMA Lobby. Supplies are provided.

Piney Prints Reception / Saturday, May 2 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.: Join us at Gallery Main Street in Downtown Tyler for a reception celebrating the selected collegiate printmakers. 'Best in Show' will be announced at 6:00 p.m.

Visual Language Book Club / Sunday, May 3 at 2:30 p.m.: TMA Members are invited to discuss "Double Click: Twin Photographers in the Golden Age of Magazines" by Carol Kino as part of our 'Snapshot of Photography' book series.

Family Day / Saturday, May 9 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.: In addition to free gallery admission, stop by the classroom for an educator-led art activity and light refreshments.

Awards Ceremony / Sunday, May 17 at 2:30 p.m.: This community reception celebrates the artists in the '22nd Annual High School Art Exhibition' and their educators.

Anniversary Gala / Thursday, May 21 at 6:30 p.m.: The dinner and celebration will honor the 55th anniversary of the TMA. Tickets can be purchased at the museum or by calling 903.595.1001.
