This summer the museum is featuring a special exhibit of Civil War era hospital equipment and circumstances, mounted by Museum Trustee and Civil War re-enactor Linda Zach. This special exhibit will remain available during our normal weekend hours for the rest of the summer. You will be amazed at the information and equipment Linda has gathered! The museum is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4 or by appointment. Appointments may be made by calling 889-7273 or 889-5875.

The Museum's annual dinner will be held on Wednesday August 15th and looks to be another exceptional program. Our speaker, John Lamphere, is a professor of history and criminal justice at Cayuga Community College. His topic is the funeral train of President Abraham Lincoln and the events that occured as it traveled its' slow, mournful way across upstate NY. Strange events can occur when people gather together for a national experience! John has a way of telling a story that brings out the most interesting and funny elements so this will prove to be an event not to be missed.

The cost of the dinner is $15 per person and it will be held at the American Legion in Union Springs. Doors open at 6:00pm and dinner will be served at 6:30. You must have advance reservations for this event. Please call Joan or Tom Parsnick at 889-5442 by AUGUST 10th to make your reservations. Advance payment for the dinner is also required so mail your check to Frontenac Museum, PO Box 338, Union Springs, NY 13160 before the 10th and note "annual dinner" on the memo line. Reservations not paid in advance will be canceled. We look forward to seeing you there.

A reminder that the museum will be closed the weekend of July28 and 29 for the Route 90 Garage Sale. The museum will be holding a sale on the front lawn that weekend to raise funds for our ceiling repair. Plan to stop by - you may find a few treasures while also supporting a great cause!

The museum recently partnered with Kohl's and the Early Literacy Sub-Committee of the Union Springs School District in this national day held to recognize Dr. Seuss's birthday. The museum purchased hard cover books and materials for the evening's activities. These expenses were reimbursed by Kohl's. Approximately 50 students from pre-school to sixth grade participated in a range of activities that taught them something new about ducks and the history of the Union Springs mill pond. Each child received a book and a bookmark from the museum. We were delighted to participate with A.J. Smith Principal Karen Burcroff and her literacy team to encourage reading in our youngsters.
