Happiest of holidays to everyone and last day (30) from the archives sale. I'll keep everything up and available until the end of the year. This is one last 'Raindrop Raku' hand-thrown ceramic vessel. I love this one, the form and surface compliment each other so well. For you potters out there, from a technical perspective, I would always throw my shapes without trimming. I'd throw with what's called a Japanese egote, or throw stick. I'd also use a torch when needed while working it. With the Raku firing, I'd use my own homemade gloves/pads, Id reach into the kiln at approx 1800 F, pick up the glowing red pot, walk it outside to allow the rain to hit the surface, then transfer it to a combustion with organic material smoke it. The rapid cooling would shock the piece (thermal shock) causing the 'crazing' in the glaze, then the carbon from the smoke would pe*****te into the cracks making them dark and visible. If you know pottery, every step of the process working with clay from start to finish is what makes the finished work 'complete. It takes a combo of creativity, skill, knowledge, science, pyrotechnics, and more... such a challenge, but such a reward. Feel free to reach out with questions, interest, or to see more. Bellingham pick up and viewings available.
