The Artspace is pleased to share Selections from the Collection: Identity Over Time.
Organized by the Artspace Jesse Howard Fellow Melissa Wolf (Sculpture ‘24) for the Artspace Cohen Resource Room, Identity Over Times features a selection of prints from the collection of the Kansas City Art Institute alongside works by invited local artists Maria Vasquez Boyd (KCAI Painting ‘91) and Isaac Tapia (KCAI 2010-2012).
The Popular Graphic Workshop refers to a famous Mexican printmaking collective, founded in 1937 and known for producing politically and socially charged prints from woodcuts. The collective educated the public on revolutionary causes and daily Mexican life while at the same time influencing global political art movements. All 85 historical prints portraying a series of events from the Mexican revolution are included in this exhibition. These works extend conversations around landscape beyond physical geography, presenting it as a site of memory, resistance, and social formation. By foregrounding how political forces are inscribed onto land and bodies, the exhibition contributes to a broader understanding of history as an archive of lived experience sustained through visual culture.
Hear more about this exhibition and other upcoming events from Melissa Wolf in a recent radio feature on kkfi.org: Artspeak Radio hosted by Maria Vasquez Boyd.
This exhibition is open to the public by appointment through April 3, 2026.
