The Great Ponds Gallery hosts “Imagination through Fabric and Fiber,” the works of Lakeville residents and good friends Leslie Metzler, a weaver, and Cindy Benard, a quilter. This exhibit will remain on display through October 29 at the Lakeville Public Library Library.

Meet the artists at the public reception on September 14 from 5:30-7:30.

A long-time quilter and crafter, Leslie Metzler started weaving once she moved to an old Lakeville farmhouse with a floor loom in the outbuilding. Cindy Benard was always interested in fiber arts: sewing clothes, macrame, embroidery, batik, and weaving. She became immersed in quilting when the pandemic kept her inside, and she started creating both traditional and innovative art quilts.

This exhibit is free to view and open during regular Library hours. Please note that the Gallery is also used as a meeting room, so please check the Library's calendar or call ahead to see if the room will be in use. The Library will be closed from Friday through Monday for the Labor Day weekend.

Visit the Great Ponds Gallery in the Lakeville Public Library to see the Lakeville Historical Commission's "250th Anniversary Exhibit".

This exhibit will focus on the local men who joined the fight for freedom in 1776 when Lakeville wasn't even its own town yet. At that time, the land we call home was the West Precinct of Middleborough.

In addition to the naming of our Revolutionary War Veterans and their service, the exhibit will include copies of national documents, illustrations, accounts of the home front, and items from the 1976 Bicentennial.

The exhibit opened on Monday, July 6 and can be visited for free during regular library hours through the end of the month.

This stirring exhibition comes from the Cambridge-based, art-centered nonprofit Patriots Heart founded by American heritage story quilter Deanne Joy. Titled Sacrifice: The Heart of the Military, it pays tribute to the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of United States Military personnel across a century of service.

At the heart of the exhibit is the crafted quilt series by Deanne Joy with Elise Sopelle, representing six major conflicts over the past 100 years. Through fabric, color, and texture, these story quilts offer a deeply personal and artistic lens into the lived experiences honoring veterans. Each piece invites viewers to reflect on the diverse aspects of military service. Complementing the quilts are a series of art posters that feature historical photos, poetry, and contextual information to deepen engagement and inspire dialogue.

There will not be a reception, but the Gallery will be open for viewing during regular hours at the Lakeville Public Library.
