In our new rotating exhibit, we invite you to learn about the life of Warren Miller. Filmmaker, artist, author, and more: this exhibit dives into some of the often untold aspects of Warren's life. This exhibit includes several never-before-seen artifacts that speak to Warren's journey as the father of the “ski stoke” film genre, using his action sports movies to generate excitement for skiing and snowboarding for everyone.

Plan your visit today. We're open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. Admission is free with a suggested donation at the door.

As we celebrate the Colorado Snowsports Museum's 50th anniversary, we are honored to share a project that reflects the enduring legacy of the 10th Mountain Division. This year, we are proud to launch a new series called 50 for 50, presented by Jamie and Meg Duke. You will see on our blog (link below) that Jamie's father, Benjamin Duke, is our first soldier featured.

Through this initiative, we will highlight 50 soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division and their lasting contributions to the great state of Colorado, from building ski areas and outdoor businesses to strengthening communities and inspiring future generations of adventurers.

We invite you to explore the first 20 stories in the series and learn more about these remarkable men whose service and vision helped shape Colorado's outdoor heritage.

Thank you to the 10th Mountain Division Foundation for supporting the 50 for 50 program series and our presenting sponsor, Jamie & Meg Duke.

Tribute Tuesday • Cheryl Jensen • Hall of Fame Class of 2023 • Inspiration

Cheryl’s contribution to snow sports is life-changing. Cheryl founded the Vail Veterans Program (VVP) in 2004, which introduces severely injured veterans and their families to therapeutic outdoor sports. VVP started as an adaptive winter ski program for a small group of wounded warriors and grew to host a variety of programs serving nearly 3,500 injured military service members and raising over $22M in support of this vital mission.

By keeping veterans active from the beginning of their recovery, their physical and mental health is improved, giving them hope and confidence. Many veterans who have experienced VVP made Colorado their home, becoming leaders in their communities and champions in Paralympic sports.

Cheryl has received numerous awards, including the Outstanding Public Service Medal (Secretary of Defense), the Women’s Outstanding Work Award from the Women’s Foundation of Colorado, Outstanding Civilian Servant from the Chief of Staff of the Army, and the Women in Industry award from the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame.

Cheryl founded Sharing Warmth Around the Globe in 2002, which was adopted by National Ski Areas Association resorts, providing hundreds of thousands of retired winter resort uniforms to countries in need.

Cheryl lives in Vail and serves on the boards of the Vail Valley Foundation and the Colorado-based DzI Foundation.

These photos, from Cheryl's archive created upon her induction, show a glimpse of her work. Cheryl is shown in the first photo in the blue jacket.

Since joining the museum in 2019, Memorial Day has taken on an entirely new meaning for Colorado Snowsports Museum Executive Director Jen Mason. What was once simply the unofficial start of the summer has become grounded in remembrance, gratitude, and reflection. Each year, she now attends the 10th Mountain Division Foundation's Memorial Day remembrance ceremony at Tennessee Pass. In this place, history, sacrifice, and the spirit of the mountains all come together powerfully.

Standing there among veterans, families, historians, and members of the outdoor community, I am reminded that the legacy of the 10th Mountain Division extends far beyond the battlefield. These soldiers not only served our country with courage during World War II, but many also returned home and helped shape the future of skiing, outdoor recreation, conservation, and the mountain culture we continue to cherish today.

"Lord, grant us the strength to climb the high and treacherous peaks,
And the courage to face the freezing winds and unseen dangers.
Bless our fellow mountaineers, keep our footing sure,
And guide us safely to the summit of our duty and our lives.
Sempre Avanti — Always Forward."

ICYMI, we would like to expand on the story of Colonel William Orlando Darby and his connection to Colorado and the Colorado Snowsports Museum as we remember and reflect on the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
