Heart breaking to see what’s going on.
As artists, there’s a responsibility to help sort through the chaos using your art...your voice.
Life and nature have always relied on the intersection where art and math meet to make sense of conflict, resulting in beautiful design.
The Julia set is a unit circle that points outside the Mandelbrot set that leads to chaotic behavior. Points that exists near the edges of the set have the most chaotic behavior. This is somewhat like the state of affairs that exists at the edge of the shore, between land and ocean. The still nature of the land as opposed to the chaotic nature of the ocean is bridged and mediated by the tide pools, where the two meet. This is where life has its greatest diversity and conflict. Stuart Kauffman referred to this region of great differentiation as the "edge of chaos". The arts play a very important role at this intersection. As mentioned before, artists have a responsibility.
Want to hear the truth of a community, and what’s really being said? Look to the arts. There you’ll hear the raw, unfiltered voices that speak to all aspects of society that are real. Through images, through music, through movement and performance..the truth is unveiled. The arts have always been used as a platform to sort through and make sense of chaos. Beautiful patterns and design have come as a result of it. We see this in science, nature, economics, and most certainly in human behavior. Through all channels, the consistency of the patterns will always create something beautiful, **as long as the individual fragments stay unified**
***Stay safe and during these times, it’s important to make your art. Continue to share your voice...in the peaceful but powerful way you always have as artists.****
