Last night at the historic Strand Theatre was more than a film screening—it was a powerful moment of reflection, connection, and truth-telling for our community.

In partnership with the Mississippi Humanities Council, Catfish Row Museum was honored to host Everlasting: The Life and Legacy of Medgar Evers. With powerful insights from Reena Evers-Everette, Taiwo Gaynor, and Joyce Dixon Lawson, and moderation by Ashley FG Norwood, the conversation truly resonated.

Hosting this film in Vicksburg—where Mrs. Myrlie Evers was raised—made the evening even more meaningful, especially with Reena Evers-Everette present.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a powerful evening of film and conversation at the historic Strand Theatre. In partnership with the Mississippi Humanities Council, the Catfish Row Museum was honored to host a screening of “Natchez”, followed by an engaging Q&A led by Carol Andersen, MHC Assistant Director.

We’re deeply grateful to our outstanding panelists—Director/Producer Suzannah Herbert, Producer Darcy McKinnon, Tracy “Rev” Collins, and Kathleen McClain Bond, Superintendent of Natchez National Historical Park—for sharing their insight and perspective. Their voices brought depth, honesty, and resonance to an already compelling film.

Both thought-provoking and at times darkly humorous, “Natchez” invites us to reflect on the layered intersections of history, tourism, and truth—and the stories that continue to shape our communities.

Both compelling and at times darkly humorous, the film explores the layered reality behind a Mississippi town known for its antebellum tourism—and the deeper truths that continue to shape it today.

St. Al Students Study Spanish Through Food 🇪🇸🍽️

The Catfish Row Museum recently hosted a Spanish-themed cooking class for Vicksburg Catholic School, where students and parents enjoyed a hands-on cultural experience led by Ms. Vivian Velazquez.

Students prepared recipes, presented their dishes in Spanish, and shared a meal together as the kitchen filled with energy, conversation, and learning.

Thank you, Ms. Velazquez, along with the students and parents, for making this a meaningful and memorable day at the museum!

Today we celebrate the birthday of Myrlie Evers-Williams, a trailblazing civil rights leader with deep roots in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Born here on March 17, 1933, Myrlie Evers-Williams became a powerful voice for justice after the assassination of her husband, Medgar Evers. She carried forward the work of the Civil Rights Movement and later served as Chair of the NAACP.

Happy Birthday, Myrlie Evers-Williams. Your courage and leadership continue to inspire generations.
