The Victor Lowell Thomas Museum invites visitors of all ages to experience the excitement of Colorado’s gold rush history with hands-on gold panning adventures this summer in the heart of historic Victor.
Participants will learn the basics of traditional gold panning techniques just like the miners and prospectors who lived through the boomtown days that shaped the legendary Cripple Creek & Victor Mining District. Guided demonstrations make the activity fun and accessible for beginners, families, and history enthusiasts alike.
Panning is open 10-4 daily during the summer, weather allowing.

In winter, Tuesdays mean posting some tidbit of history with an invite to come visit the museum on the weekends. Not today! We are open full time for the summer, every day from 10 am to 5 pm.

~ Come see two floors of historic displays with original furnishings, mining artifacts, photographs, and the history Victor and the historic Cripple Creek District.
~ Visit our gift shop with unique items for everyone, local artist items, and the largest local history book section in Victor.
~ Try your hand at panning for gold the way they did it over a century ago - we will show you how!
~ Ask about our upcoming Spirits of Sunnyside Cemetery Tour, where our guides will tell you the stories of our pioneers.
