Pine Mountain Gold Museum

Pine Mountain Gold Museum Please check our current hours BEFORE your visit as seasonal hours create limited availability for certain activities.

The Pine Mountain Gold Museum at Stockmar Park is a unique historical site with a museum, actual mining sites, nature trails and gold panning all at one location. Experience gold mining techniques spanning over 100 years beginning in the 1820s through the early 1930s. We are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and awarded the Southern Arc's Best of 2008 "Best Tourist Attraction" and

the Carroll County 2009 Preservation Award. We were also the site for the filming of Robert DeNiro and John Travolta in February 2012, for the film "Killing Season" due out in 2013. We have a bevy of opportunities to volunteer and cater to your strengths, skills, and likes. We are mostly volunteer based and can use any assistance including tour guides, research, administrative, cleaning, organizing, event assistance, gardening, etc. Let us know what you like to do, and we can find a way to include you!

Pine Mountain Gold Museum will be closed in observance of the holiday until Wednesday 27 May 2026.

Villa Rica Public Library is proud to lead the efforts for the City of Villa Rica—and nearby communities in Carroll, Douglas, and Paulding Counties— to participate in this year’s City Nature Challenge from Friday, April 24th through Monday, April 27th.

The City Nature Challenge is a global initiative that encourages people to explore and document local nature using the iNaturalist app. To kick off the City Nature Challenge, we’re hosting a special event on Friday, April 24 at 3:30 PM at the Pine Mountain Gold Museum, in partnership with the University of West Georgia and the Pine Mountain Gold Museum. During this event, scientists from UWG will teach us about our local ecosystem, and how to use the iNaturalist app. Participants will explore the museum grounds and document the plants and animals on the app.

We invite you to participate in the City Nature Challenge so that our community can get outside and explore together. You can attend the kickoff event and/or collect data using iNaturalist in your own backyard, neighborhood, or local green space. Please sign up at: https://forms.gle/9iZUs4r5qKqidVKg7

PLEASE NOTE: Museum will be closed in observance of the holiday until Wednesday 8 April 2026.
