Vincennes State Historic Sites

Vincennes State Historic Sites Explore where cultures blended to form the Indiana Territorial frontier long before statehood. Accounts are moderated by the marketing and communication staff.

See our community guidelines in the "About" section under "Details about you." If you are looking for the place where Indiana had its beginning — where Chief Tecumseh walked, where the first governor of the Indiana Territory and ninth president of the United States lived and worked, where troops mustered for the battle of Tippecanoe, where laws were passed that still affect Indiana residents today

, and where the first free press in Indiana was born — then plan a visit to the Vincennes State Historic Sites. Located throughout the city of Vincennes, the many components of the Vincennes State Historic Sites include the Indiana Territory Capitol, the Print Shop of Elihu Stout, the Birthplace of Maurice Thompson, the Log Cabin Visitors’ Center, the Old State Bank, Fort Knox II, Sugar Loaf Mound and the Jefferson Academy. Lost Arts Saturday.
Today we are working on our knitting and sharpening quill pens.
Pen knives (now called pocket knives) were carried by all scholars so they could keep their pens sharp, in the same way we keep our pencils sharp.

Pop by and see what we are doing and have a go at writing with one of our quill pens.

Our gardens are blooming, come and see what we have growing in them.
