Root & Reach Intergenerational Art Program 🍃

On view May 22-31 at The Garage Gallery inside The Creative Well Arts Foundation.

This spring, students from Organic Beginnings Montessori and senior residents of Westminster-Canterbury on the Bay gathered through the Root & Reach Intergenerational Art Program in partnership The Creative Well Arts Foundation.
Together, participants explored OMA abstract artmaking through collaborative prompts centered around curiosity, storytelling, play, observation, and shared decision making.

Intergenerational programming creates space for empathy, confidence, creativity, and meaningful human connection across all ages. Through art, participants slowed down together, learned from one another, shared stories, and built relationships rooted in presence and community.

Over 40 collaborative works were created this season and will be on view May 22-31, with each artwork available through silent auction benefiting continued programming and participating educational initiatives.

A juried group exhibition exploring culture, heritage, memory, and intergenerational connection through the arts. Join us May 22–31 at The Garage Gallery in The Creative Well Arts Foundation for a week of exhibitions, collaborative programming, and community experiences designed for all ages.

Opening Reception
Friday, May 22 | 6–8 PM
Celebrate the opening of Root & Reach with exhibiting artists, community partners, and collaborative works spanning generations.

Root & Reach Intergenerational Program
A collaborative spring partnership between Westminster Canterbury, OMA, Organic Beginnings Montessori, and The Creative Well Arts Foundation. Abstract artworks created by students and senior residents will be on view in a silent auction benefiting the school and continued intergenerational programming.

Panel Discussion
Thursday, May 28 | 6:30 PM
Hear from professionals across the arts, education, healthcare, and community spaces as they explore how intergenerational connection strengthens empathy, healing, creativity, and culture.

Family Tree Workshop
Saturday, May 30 | 10–11 AM
Create a mixed media family tree together through storytelling, collage, and creative reflection. Ages 8+ with accompanying adult.

💫 DONATION OPTION AVAILABLE
Artists may choose to donate unsold works to the Neptune Festival Young Collectors Tent, a special open-air gallery experience on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk where children ages 6–12 can begin their journey into art collecting. For just $5, young collectors choose an original work of art to take home and treasure. We’re honored to partner with the Neptune Festival to help inspire the next generation of art lovers and collectors. Proceeds support programming at The Creative Well Arts Foundation.

Ever found yourself stuck in the middle of a painting? Or art curious but unsure where to begin? 🎨

Join artist Aidan Barton for an upcoming 3-part Color Theory Series designed for both beginners and experienced artists looking to strengthen their foundation and deepen their understanding of color.

Together, students will explore value, hue, saturation, color relationships, and practical application- while building a personalized color journal to keep as an ongoing creative reference.
