Mission Statement: The purpose of the Saunders County Historical Society is to collect and preserve objects (artifacts) and information which illustrate the history of Saunders County, Nebraska and its people. These objects and information will be used to educate persons about the social, economic, cultural and political history of Saunders County.

During the height of the Cold War, the 549th Strategic Missile Squadron at Offutt Air Force Base was tasked with the construction of three Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) sites in the 1960s.

Site A, near Mead, was one of America's first missile sites.

Are you hungry for barbecue?
This Friday is the annual Saunders County Historical Society Barbecue Fundraiser. You can drive through "the loop" and get it to go, or you can dine in the museum's backyard. Advanced tickets still available at the museum, online or from board members. Or, just come and get tickets at the event. Plus, check out the first ever Meat Raffle for the museum! Raffle tickets available at the barbecue!!!
