I always wanted to have artistic ability, trouble was I couldn’t draw a straight line with a ruler! My wife & I went to the Biltmore House in Asheville, NC and I saw the windows done by Tiffany himself. I told my Debbie that’s something I always wished I could do…. In 2003 Debbie gave me a stained glass starter kit for Christmas. It included tools, copper foil, a glasscutter, grinder and assortmen
t of glass, everything I needed to get started. I tried a simple project on my own, once I finished it - I thought hum……….I better take a class. I found a local studio that taught stained glass classes to learn the art of Tiffany style foiled stained glass. We started small projects, and to finish the class I had to design and complete a large project. I choose a Hawaiian Sunset, and much to my surprise…someone came into the studio and wanted to buy it! The owner told them it wasn’t for sale that is was one of her students. (I still have it !)
Over the years, I have designed and built many different designs from fish to flowers, candle holders to business card holders, butterflies, crosses to side light panels. I made a business card holder for my brother Ronnie. He was a Mac computer guy. I designed one that had an apple integrated into it - and he loved it. Almost every time we talked he would mention that business card holder, and how I should be selling these. I never really thought about being me being an artist and doing shows. I’ll blame it on Ronnie and my wife hearing him repeatedly talk about it. Debbie decided to contact local studios and thanks to Linda at Sunflower Studio & Gallery in Wake Forest, I now get to share my passion with many others. I’ve done various commissions from sun catchers to large side lite panels. Email address: [email protected]
My "October Art Show" was in memory of my brother, Ronnie, who passed away September 6, 2013 at the age of 56 of a massive heart attack.
