Check out the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum's 1929 Mack AC!

The first Mack AC was built in 1916, and this 1929 model looks nearly identical to the original. It features the same four-cylinder engine, water pump, magneto, and crank start. The radiator is still located at the back; it uses a chain drive, and the hood still flips up from the front. The only difference is a change in the engine design.

Mack produced over 40,000 AC models before ending production in 1938. The later models offered more transmission options; this one has only three forward speeds, while later models had up to seven. This particular model has a five-ton capacity, but Mack also made three-and-a-half-ton and seven-and-a-half-ton versions. In the antique truck community, the Mack AC is quite popular, and many of them are still on the road today due to their numbers and durability.

The correct answer was B!✅️
The first Mack AC was built in 1916. This is a 1929 model, and it looks the same as the '16. Our 1929 Mack AC is a 5-ton model, but a 3.5-ton and a 7.5-ton model were also available.

Did you guess the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum's 1929 REO Speedwagon EX?1?

REO stands for Ransom Eli Olds, who founded the REO Motor Car Company in 1904. The company produced trucks until 1967. Mr. Olds sold his previous company, which manufactured Oldsmobile cars, to General Motors and was unable to use his last name for his new business, so he opted for his initials instead.

With a top speed of 35 miles per hour, this truck may have been considered fast for 1929. The band REO Speedwagon was named after this truck after a founding member of the group saw "REO Speedwagon" written on the blackboard during his History of Transportation class in college. Their self-titled debut album even features a picture of an REO Speedwagon on the cover (As seen in image 3).

This truck is quite stylish. It's equipped with a Comet engine series and a chrome-nickel block, and the words “Chrome Nickel” are cast into the block. The engine is unique with its six cylinders, all visible and cast in the same block. Unlike other trucks that have cylinders cast individually or in pairs, having a six-cylinder configuration cast as a single unit is very rare.

Though this truck uses an electric starter, it still has a hand crank. If the battery is nearly dead, you can roll the truck down a slight hill, pop the clutch, and get it started.

Check out these photos from 2014 when the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum held a Flag Dedication ceremony. The 25’ x 40’ U.S. Flag is now flying proudly on the Museum’s 100-foot-tall flagpole. It is the largest known flag in the Quad City Area.

American Legion Post 548 of Walcott, Iowa, performed the official ceremony. The flag was presented to Carolyn Moon and Delia Moon Meier. Delia dedicated the flag in honor of her father, Iowa 80 employees, professional truck drivers, and all others who have served and those who continue to serve in the U.S. Military. “We are proud to be able to live and work in a land where freedom is still valued and protected.” Said Meier at the dedication in 2014.

The flag and flagpole were donated by the Iowa 80 Truckstop to the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum in honor of all of the men and women who have served and continue to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Happy Flag Day!

Check out the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum's 1928 Graham Screenside!
The Graham Brothers may be unfamiliar to many, but this company played a significant role in establishing one of the most successful truck lines in automotive history. Graham began building truck bodies in 1919 and entered into a partnership with the Dodge Brothers just a few years later. This partnership proved beneficial for both companies: Dodge Brothers supplied Graham with powertrains and sold Graham trucks in their dealerships, while Graham enhanced Dodge's limited commercial offerings with their well-regarded and extremely popular trucks.

This collaboration was so successful that Dodge outright acquired Graham in 1926. During this period, all commercial vehicles sold at Dodge dealerships, including a few originally developed by Dodge, were branded as Grahams. In 1928, Chrysler purchased Dodge and, in 1929, discontinued the Graham brand.

The Screenside, also known as “the Commercial Car,” was one of Dodge’s few commercial offerings before partnering with Graham. It was closely based on a light-duty truck that Dodge developed for the U.S. military during World War I. After fully absorbing Graham in 1927, Dodge rebadged its Screenside trucks as Grahams. However, by 1929, the Graham name was phased out, and the Screensides reverted to being Dodge vehicles. Our 1928 model is a rare example from this transitional period.

The correct answer was D! ✅️
This 1928 Fageol has had virtually no use; we found it on a farm on an island in Minnesota. Apparently, the engine blew up very early in its life and somebody parked it in a shed where it stayed.
