Broel Studio Inc. Contemporary paintings and sculptures by Squire Broel.

Over the last twenty years Squire Broel has built and refined a personal visual language comprised of specific forms, images and colors. This visual vocabulary has grown around a narrative that strives to hold, in tension, the distinctly personal and the universally familiar. Broel is particularly interested in how place, time, cultural narratives and interactions with nature impact identity, memo

ry and appreciation for the seemingly mundane in everyday life. Through the creation of objects and curated experiences Squire Broel encourages examination of the physical and the nonphysical as a means to enhance the human experience and encourage the human spirit. Broel’s work—roughhewn and seemingly primitive at times—reflects rural ingenuity, agrarian problem-solving and the structure of nature itself. At the same time, through attentiveness to form, surface texture, color and juxtaposition, it reveals a refined sensibility.

I hope you can join me for a special after-hours Artist Reception on Thursday March 23rd at 6:00 p.m. During the reception I’ll be giving a brief talk about the artworks–from inspiration to creation. The raw landscapes of the Pacific Northwest–rolling hills and mountain forests–are inspiration for the exhibited works.

Tickets for wine include two glasses from select Valdemar Estates Washington and Spanish Collections. Tickets are available online at https://www.exploretock.com/valdemarestateswallawalla/event/398933/squire-broel-artist-reception — If you have additional questions please contact Valdemar Estates: 509-956-4926

Revisiting earlier works have a way of clarifying current projects; threads of long-developed processes and philosophies are revealed. The road is long. Deliberate fortitude and diligence required. -

This transitional piece captures the shift from overt floral forms to the more conceptual and mystical all-seeing eye. Elements and notions of floral structures remain as part of the pentimento (traces of the original underpainting), however the over-painting creates a distinct push towards an expanded aesthetic and personal creative vision.

Considering our relation to nature...and the fundamental molecular composition of the universe. How great is the mystery? How vast is the expanse between what we know and all that remains unknown?
