Congratulations to Jack Cox!
CCHAPS Historian, Sarah Miller, was invited to Jack’s Eagle Scout celebration. He organized, built, and hung bat houses at Pon Pon Chapel of Ease.
Jack’s brother Ben build picnic tables at Pon Pon for his Eagle Scout project several years ago.
Thank you to the Cox family for caring as much about Pon Pon as we do!

The USC Salkehatchie HIST 214: Public History Class invites you to a special presentation, Walterboro: Celebrating 200 Years. Join us as we explore the rich heritage of our community in partnership with the City of Walterboro and the Colleton County Historical and Preservation Society.

Mother Nature delivered exceptional weather for Earth Day, April 22nd, and a mighty crew took full advantage to tackle major yard work at the Bedon-Lucas House. Debi Gilliam, Mandy Snipes, Barrett Ulm and Cindy Warren, all members of the Board, were joined by volunteer Chad Husselbee for a morning filled with vine and underbrush removal. When finished, three HUGE piles of debris were left for the City to collect. And a couple of treasures were unearthed: a vacated box turtle shell and an old lead duck decoy weight! Huge thanks to those workers for an extraordinary job!

12/31/2025 Update on progress at Pon Pon Chapel of Ease:

The team has determined the brick colors to match the front facade. These have been approved by SHPO.

Reminder: The site and grounds of Pon Pon Chapel are a construction area. The entire property is closed, and the gates are locked. No trespassing onto the site. We plan to reopen in October/November of 2026 when construction is finished.
