THE ANSWER IS... Fountain by Marcel Duchamp!
Congratulations to everyone who guessed correctly!
Duchamp's famous - and infamous - "Fountain" is exactly what it looks like: a store-bought porcelain urinal. Duchamp, one of the most famous members of the Dada movement and a champion of 'readymades' such as this, submitted this piece to the first exhibition by the Society of Independent Artists under the pseudonym R. Mutt. The Society declared that anyone who wanted to enter their exhibitions could do so, and exhibitions were to be without juries or prizes. When his "Fountain" was rejected, Duchamp - a founding member of the Society, resigned as its director.
