It is not a part of the Department of Defense or any of its components and it has no governmental status. The Museum of Aviation is the second largest museum in the U.S. Air Force with a collection dating from a replica of an early 1896 glider to modern-era aircraft such as the B-1B bomber, the SR-71 Blackbird, the U-2 Dragon Lady and F-15 Eagle. The Museum is accredited by the American Association of Museums. Exhibits tell the story of aviation events from World War II to the present, including depicting the mission of Robins Air Force Base, the largest industrial employer in Georgia.The on-site Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame displays the achievements and artifacts of civilian and military men and women who made significant contributions to aviation in Georgia. Admission is free and the museum is open 9 a.m. We are closed on all Federal Holidays and Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve after 1:00 pm. The Museum is located 10 miles east of I-75 exit 144 at the end of Russell Parkway.

Wreaths Across America is coming to the Museum of Aviation!

The Wreaths Across America Mobile Education Exhibit is a rolling exhibition that brings the local community, veterans, active-duty military, and their families together through interactive exhibits, short films, and shared stories.

The exhibit serves as a mobile museum, educating visitors about the service and sacrifice of our nation's heroes as well as serving as an official 'welcome home' station for our nation's Vietnam Veterans. All veterans, active-duty military, their families, and the local community members are invited and encouraged to visit, take a tour, and speak with WAA representatives and volunteers.

They can also learn more about the national nonprofit and the work its volunteers do year-round to support our heroes and their communities.

Public tours for the exhibit are free and open to the public! Members of the media, dignitaries, veterans, and other interested groups are urged to come, ask questions, share stories, and experience this one-of-a-kind exhibit.

It’s not too late to sign up for several upcoming Mission Quest classes.

Tailored for 6th- to 10th-grade students, our “Civics: Your Government at Work” class explores the structure of our federal government and its three branches. Class members will serve as either Senators or Representatives and debate legislation. They will also review important Supreme Court cases and exercise their future right to vote as citizens.

Bring your family, friends, coworkers, organization, or group together and create a tree that’s uniquely yours! Trees are available on all three floors of the Eagle Building, with pricing based on location.

You’ll receive a 6.5-foot pre-lit tree to decorate, plus recognition at the Museum, a spot in our online photo gallery, and a chance to win the People’s Choice Competition!

When you get a tree, you’ll receive tickets to our Festival of Trees Reception on December 10, where the winners will be announced.

Honoring the Legacy of "Bunny" Rabbitt

For Georgia Archives Month, we are sharing the powerful story of PFC Walter Andrew "Bunny" Rabbitt (1924–1945), a high school graduate who enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942. As a radio operator with the Air Transport Command in Tezpur, India, Walter flew perilous missions over "The Hump", navigating dangerous terrain and harsh weather.

Walter kept a meticulous flight logbook and marked a proud "X" under his service cap for every mission completed. Tragically, on January 7, 1945, his C-109 transport crashed in China.

Swipe through to see the moving personal artifacts preserved in our collection, which bring his service to life:

Letters & Drawings: Heartfelt correspondence and cartoons from his younger brother, saved by his mother.
The Flight Logbook: Open to his final entry, describing a "beautiful flight."
Service Cap: Bearing the hand-marked "X"s for his completed missions.
Uniform Patches & Documents: Official telegrams alongside his military insignia.

These items belong to the Hump Pilots Association Collection, donated by Frank Rabbitt in 2001. Archives preserve these vital personal stories so that their sacrifices are never forgotten.

Celebrate World Space Week with us at the Museum of Aviation!

This weekend, Mission Quest will be offering planetarium shows in the Mission Quest Air/Space Classroom on Saturday and Sunday. Shows have limited space and are first come, first served, and will run throughout the day.
