New exhibition at IMAGO Gallery: Homage to Artist and Teacher Howard Windham

IMAGO Gallery presents Homage to Artist and Teacher Howard Windham, an exhibition celebrating the life and work of longtime IMAGO artist, teacher, and RISD graduate Howard Windham.

Spanning work from the 1960s through the 2020s, the exhibition traces the visual language that remained constant throughout Windham’s practice: grids, dots, lines, repetition, and the idea that complex forms can be built from the smallest of elements. His collages, paintings, and sculptures also reveal the things that occupied his imagination—from cats, reading, and baseball to the hundreds of invented face collages he created in response to his pronounced facial recognition blindness.

The exhibition also brings together work by Windham’s children, Corey Turner Windham and Brett Day Windham, revealing some of the ways his artistic language continues across generations. Corey’s grid paintings echo a process he remembers from his father’s studio, while Brett’s multidisciplinary practice brings together cyanotype, painting, and collected natural, commercial, and industrial remnants through an intuitive approach to color, composition, and ritual.

The exhibition will also feature work by IFA Exhibiting Artists Dot Bergen, Jim Cain, David Clarke, Eileen Siobhan Collins, Mary Dondero, Stephen Fisher, Philip Gruppuso, Gary Heise, Carl Keitner, Lisa Lowenstein, Eileen Mayhew, Linda Megathlin, Catherine Moylan, Rina Naik, Mercedes Nuñez, Anne Marie Rossi, Howard Rotblat-Walker, Lenny Rumpler, Duff Schweninger, Suzanne Taetzsch, Pat Warwick, and Meredith Wolf.

A life in art, traced across six decades.

On September 5, IMAGO Gallery opens Homage to Artist and Teacher Howard Windham, an exhibition celebrating the life and work of longtime IMAGO artist Howard Windham, whose collages, paintings, and sculptures span the 1960s through the 2020s.

The exhibition brings together Windham’s work with that of his children, Corey Windham and Brett Day Windham, alongside work by IFA exhibiting artists—revealing unexpected continuities of grids, dots, lines, color, collecting, and repetition across generations.

A celebration of Howard’s work is also a celebration of the things that surrounded his life: cats, baseball, books, chocolate chip cookies, and an enduring commitment to making.

Meet Mary Dondero – the Featured Artist in our new group exhibition now on view at IMAGO Gallery in Warren, RI.

In her latest body of work, Looking Is Not Knowing, Mary Dondero explores the space between what we see and what we understand. Expanding beyond her longtime practice of expressive pastel drawing, she incorporates photography, digital montage, assemblage, and installation to examine memory, overlooked histories, women’s lives, and systems of harm.

Through layered imagery, found objects, and moments of concealment and revelation, Dondero invites us to slow down, question first impressions, and consider how meaning is formed—and how it often remains incomplete.

On view alongside Dondero’s work are exhibitions by IFA Spotlight Artist Pat Warwick, whose assemblages transform found objects into relic-like compositions, and Guest Artist Nyala Honda, whose ceramics explore place, identity, mythology, and perception through layered narratives. The exhibition also features work by other IFA exhibiting artists.

Meet Pat Warwick, the Spotlight Artist in our new group exhibition now on view at IMAGO Gallery in Warren, RI.

Pat Warwick has built a career spanning graphic design, ceramics, painting, collage, and assemblage. After years creating custom ceramic works for homes and public spaces, she shifted her focus toward abstract painting and mixed-media assemblage, continuing a lifelong exploration of texture, color, and material.

For this exhibition, Warwick transforms discarded and found objects into evocative compositions that recall relics, shrines, works of fine art, and everyday curiosities. Each fragment becomes a brushstroke, line, or color, revealing beauty and meaning in materials that might otherwise be overlooked.

Warwick’s work is deeply informed by Rhode Island’s coastal landscape, where weathered objects, washed ashore treasures, and traces of human presence become inspiration for works that celebrate memory, place, and discovery.

On view alongside Warwick’s work are Guest Artist Nyala Honda, whose ceramic sculptures explore place, perception, and personal mythology, and IFA Exhibiting Artist Mary Dondero, whose exhibition Looking Is Not Knowing examines the space between what we see and what we understand. The exhibition also features new work by IFA exhibiting artists.
