Dear FB Friends,

We pause today to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten.

As you gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, may you also take a moment to reflect with gratitude for those who served and gave all so that we may be free.

Part of the Cold War Museum's mission is to honor the often-forgotten service and sacrifices of Cold War veterans. From the Cold War Museum, we wish you a safe and meaningful Memorial Day, and heartfelt thanks to all who have served and continue to serve our nation.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, will be to locate various espionage sites in Arlington, Washington, and Georgetown; observe the former café where a Soviet spy escaped from his CIA handlers; listen in on a briefing about Civil War espionage at Lafayette Park; tour the International Spy Museum in Washington, DC; and/or visit drop points used by agents such as FBI spy Robert Hanssen or CIA spy Aldrich Ames.

Since its earliest days, Washington, D.C. has been the scene of international intrigue, espionage, and intelligence activity, as the U.S. government has tried to learn the plans of other countries while keeping its own plans secret. Key players in this non-ending drama include personalities as diverse as Rose Greenhow, Herbert Yardley, Major General “Wild Bill” Donovan, Aldrich Ames, and Robert Hanssen. This charter bus tour will introduce you to many of the locations in and around Washington that have been associated with intelligence and counter intelligence activities for the past two hundred years. Some walking is required.
