What is sorghum? Sorghum syrup is the green juice from the sorghum plant, similar to corn in appearance with a head at the top containing the many seeds.

Sorghum syrup is made by pressing the plant to extract the juice and cooking it down to reduce the water content creating a natural sweetener!

Somewhat similar to molasses which is the BY-PRODUCT of processing sugar cane into sugar, commonly found as blackstrap molasses and fit only for livestock feed compared to sorghum syrup. Sorghum syrup is sweeter than molasses since it is not a by product of refined sugar, similar to honey in sweetness and consistency.

Sorghum can be used in baking, cookies, salad dressing, barbecue and chili, even in an Antebellum Julep!

Come see our demonstration of turning the juice into sweet sorghum syrup at Pioneer Heritage Days October 16 and 17. Taste the goodness for yourself and we have pint jars available for purchase!
