Rather than offering a single way of knowing, Entangled Light places science, mysticism, and embodied experience in direct conversation, suggesting that seeking is not a movement toward certainty, but a practice of staying open.

Entangled Light | ربطِ نُور, an immersive multimedia installation—composed of experimental gelatin silver photographs and hand-processed 16mm film—explores and expands upon an ancient Sufi parable of moths drawn to a flame. Paralleling the moth’s pull toward light with the artist’s labor in the darkroom, the project frames artistic practice as a form of spiritual inquiry shaped by uncertainty, trial, reverence, and revelation.

Introducing the 2026–2028 Hamiltonian Fellows! ✨ We are pleased to welcome Ayana Zaire Cotton, Jake Lahah, Jonna McKone, Stephanie Germosen Salazar, and Kristen Jean Wheatley to our cohort of fellows.

Selected from more than 140 applicants across the region, these five artists will spend the next two years developing their practices, connecting with a vibrant network of artists and arts professionals, and sharing new work through group and solo exhibitions.

The cohort’s first exhibition, new.now., will be on view at Hamiltonian Artists February 20–March 27, 2027, followed by individual solo exhibitions in 2028.

Join us in congratulating the new fellows as they embark on this next chapter!

The cohort was selected for their commitment to artistic excellence, growth potential, and alignment with Hamiltonian Artists’ value of community, by a panel of independent jurors:
Morgan Ashcom, Leo Brooks, Camille Brown, Kyle Hackett, and Madyha Leghari.

Throughout the installation, repetition becomes a form of seeking. Images are returned to, altered, reprinted, and developed again, echoing the iterative nature of both devotional practice and scientific inquiry.

Rather than offering a single way of knowing, Entangled Light places science, mysticism, and embodied experience in direct conversation, suggesting that seeking is not a movement toward certainty, but a practice of staying open.

Entangled Light | ربطِ نُور, a solo exhibition by Sobia Ahmad on view through October 24. Gallery hours 11-6pm, Thursday-Saturday

The Kreeger Museum and Hamiltonian Artists are pleased to present Out of Bounds, an exhibition featuring the work of Hamiltonian alumni Selin Balci, Larry W. Cook, Joyce Yu-Jean Lee, Christie Neptune, Allison Spence, Kyle Tata, and Jing (Ellen) Xu.

Borrowed from the language of sport, Out of Bounds refers to the space beyond the limits of play. Figuratively, it can describe actions, ideas, or behaviors that go against accepted rules or expectations. Working across painting, photo, sculpture, video, and installation, the artists presented in Out of Bounds consider what it means to question, cross, or redraw established boundaries.

The Hamiltonian alumni’s work will be exhibited alongside selected contemporary works from The Kreeger Museum’s permanent collection.

This exhibition is curated by Anisa Olufemi, director of programs and curator at Hamiltonian Artists, and presented under The Collaborative, a program developed by The Kreeger Museum in 2021 to support Washington-area artists.
