Summary

This position is located in Smithsonian Institution, National Zoological Park. The purpose of this position would be to perform a variety of duties that ensure the proper preparation, procurement, and distribution of diets for all animals in the NZP collection.

Responsibilities

Receives work assignments and training to prepare for participation in the creation of an overall environment for collection animals, which ensures the health and welfare of the specimens and provides an enriching and memorable experience for the visiting public.

Performs a variety of duties under close supervision to develop skills that ensure the proper care, feeding, exhibition, and propagation of a collection of wild and exotic animals, many of which are rare and endangered.

Responsible for the daily care and feeding of assigned animals.

Performs duties involved in the receipt, inspection, storage, inventory, preparation, and issuance of food and dietary supplements, forage, and bedding materials.

Develops and negotiates statements of work and budgets for IT work performed by an outsourcing party. Ensures that contractors are working within scope and are performing to the spirit and letter of the contract and are delivering on time, within budget and according to federal laws and policies.

Prepares and presents technical written proposals on IT projects for OFEO and OCIO managers as well as managers of IT functions in other Smithsonian units.

The Smithsonian commemorates Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with films, performances, talks, tours, and family programs.

This month’s feature event is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Family Day, hosted by the Smithsonian American Art Museum in the Kogod Courtyard on May 12th from 11:30 AM to 3 PM. The day will include art-related scavenger hunts, performances, and a variety of craft activities.
