This Memorial Day, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

In the years following World War I, the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America helped lead the effort to establish the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

Beginning in 1919, the organization gathered national support and appealed directly to Warren G. Harding and Florence Harding, emphasizing that the Unknown Soldier represented all Americans who gave their lives on distant battlefields.

At the 1921 dedication, the Dames laid a wreath and contributed to the tomb’s upkeep, later helping fund the iconic sarcophagus completed in 1931.

Today, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier stands as a powerful symbol of sacrifice, remembrance, and national gratitude.

For this week’s Mission Monday, we highlight Service in action.

In December, the Arkansas NSCDA Corporate Society sponsored more than 130 wreaths and volunteered at Little Rock National Cemetery as part of Wreaths Across America. Members placed wreaths on veterans’ graves to honor their service and sacrifice.

With children and grandchildren joining in, the day became a meaningful, multigenerational act of remembrance and gratitude. Across the country, NSCDA Corporate Societies are engaging in service that honors those who have served and strengthens their communities.

For this week’s Mission Monday, we highlight Education in action.

In January 2026, the Oklahoma NSCDA Corporate Society hosted an expanded Colonial Day at the State Capitol, welcoming fifth-grade students from across the state to explore the nation’s founding. The program featured engaging, hands-on learning experiences, including presentations by costumed Colonial Williamsburg interpreters and interactive demonstrations of colonial-era crafts.

To ensure broader access, a virtual option was also offered for students unable to attend in person, extending the reach of this immersive educational experience. Across the country, NSCDA Corporate Societies are creating meaningful opportunities to bring history to life for the next generation.

For this week’s Mission Monday, we highlight Historic Preservation in action.

The Pennsylvania NSCDA Corporate Society has launched For the Common Good: The Women Who Shaped Our Nation, a multi-part docuseries highlighting nine trailblazing women whose contributions helped shape early America. Developed in partnership with You’ll Never Forget Productions, the series brings to life the stories of entrepreneurs, leaders, and changemakers—challenging the long-held narrative that women were absent from the nation’s founding.

Created in honor of America’s 250th anniversary, this project reflects a commitment to preserving and sharing a more complete American story. Through this initiative, and others like it across the country, NSCDA Corporate Societies are ensuring that history is not only protected, but meaningfully interpreted and shared for future generations.
