I’m excited to share this work with you! These bonsai pots have been in my brain for many years and it feels good to follow through. I think that might be one of the hardest parts of making art!

Hello Friends!
I hope you can visit me at the National Arboretum for the Potomac Bonsai Festival. I’ll be selling pots made especially for these magical little trees. I’m thrilled to be participating again this year. It’s a fun and intimate event filled with people who are incredibly passionate about this living art form. Held each year on World Bonsai Day weekend, the Festival is hosted on the grounds of the U.S. National Arboretum, 3501 New York Avenue NE in Washington, DC.

‘Join us for a full weekend of bonsai exhibitions, live demonstrations, hands-on workshops, children’s activities, and vendors from across the country. Preview the Festival on Friday with bonsai vendors and bonsai displays. A special ceremony officially opens the festival on Saturday at 10:30 AM, featuring bonsai leaders and dignitaries.

This year, we are excited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum and the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. Join the party!’

Finally finding time to try an idea I’ve had in my head for years. The black will turn a sepia once fired so I’ll share pics again once they’re done. I’ll likely add some flowers too because I can’t help myself!
Anyway, I’m excited about these! They are pots. I’ve been wanting to use imagery on them that relate to the scale of the trees. Stay tuned!

I’ll be participating in the Bonsai Festival at the National Arboretum 5/8-5/10.
I’ll post more information soon!

Hello Friends!
Thanks to everyone who has been checking in and asking about my studio sale. I’m taking this year off! I just needed to not be quite so busy for a bit. I’m SURE you all understand :)

A lot of change has been happening in my little life. My daughter went off to college, I’m back in the museum contracting world (which I love), AND I’m facing the fact that I need to move eventually, not immediately, but eventually. Anyway, it’s exciting and daunting! I will certainly have a big huge sale or 2 at some point.
They will be called ‘Garage Sales’. Get it? I’m already scheming!

I’m still plugging away in here. I’ve decided to focus on trying to use as much of my material as possible. I have 3 million buckets of glaze that I used for one project and 5 million pounds of clay to recycle. 20 years of accumulation!! I plan on doing a lot of testing to find the most pleasing outcome for what I have to work with, a kind of buy-nothing theme! It’s a totally different way of working than I’m used to. I’ve always started with the idea and then found a way, but now I will reverse that (the idea is not to use an idea you see?) I’m feeling inspired! I will keep you posted with my testing and experiments.

Ok, this has been a bit of a ramble. Thanks for reading! Please stay tuned, and in the meantime—

I DO have a bunch of work for sale AND I’m around. Please message me if you want to swing by! Don’t hesitate. It’s easy because I live upstairs. Weekends and evenings.
Come shopping!

I’ll post some stories asap so you can see what I have.

I look forward to sharing more.

Fresh out of the kiln! I did a little bit of decal play on some bonsai pots this go round. These are fired 4 times - bisque, glaze, iron, and the final color decal firing.

I really enjoyed making these small landscapes. The iron images are collaged / reconstructed from the blue willow china pattern and the color pieces are from my collection of commercially printed decals. I didn’t anticipate how the scale of the imagery could relate to the scale of the bonsai trees themselves. What potential!
