Bring your designs to life by painting a craft while enjoying seasonal cocktails. When you’re done with your creation, enjoy exclusive access to our exhibits after-hours!

Drum Roll Please..

Meet the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, consisting of nearly seventy musicians keeping history alive. Their uniforms aren't just for show: red regimental coats, colonial overalls, waistcoats, white wigs, and black tricorn hats are all inspired by the musicians who marched with the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War.

As official representatives of the U.S. Army, they perform at hundreds of events a year, including White House State Arrival Ceremonies, and they've participated in every Inauguration Day Parade since the presidency of John F. Kennedy.

Discover the stories of those who worked in the White House in our People’s Voices Gallery and with The White House Historical Association's White House Workers History Project, a new digital history project which highlights the often-overlooked impact of non-partisan White House staff from 1789 to the present.

Explore the lives of these everyday people who shaped the American story, such as Jeremiah “Jerry” Smith, who served in the Union Army and later joined President Ulysses S. Grant’s White House staff. He was sometimes referred to as a valet, footman, custodian, and official duster, among other roles and was thus described as a jack-of-all-trades. He spent 30 years working at the White House. During that time, one of his duties was to raise and lower the flag atop the White House each day. He was also known to share ghost stories and sightings of former presidents Lincoln, Grant, and McKinley. Upon Jerry’s death, President Theodore Roosevelt sent a floral depiction of the White House to decorate Jerry’s casket.

This photo taken in February 1963 shows White House Chief Floral Designer Elmer M. "Rusty" Young with a flower arrangement in the Red Room. Young was the first official Chief Floral Designer at the White House, and he worked there from 1953 to 1981.

The People’s House: A White House Experience makes White House history accessible to all, allowing visitors to surround themselves with the stories of presidents, first families, and key figures who have shaped the Executive Mansion.

This week, as part of that mission The People's House completed the second transition of our Oval Office replica exhibit to reflect President Trump's second-term Oval Office.

These planned transitions, which will continue with future presidencies, ensure the exhibit will reflect White House history, and advance The White House Historical Association's mission to expand public access to the stories of the Executive Mansion. This work continues the nonpartisan vision of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy when she founded the Association of bringing White House history to life for new generations.
