We are incredibly excited to share the story about the we have curated of local original artwork at Avec On H Apartments with Washington City Paper!!! -
“Staudinger (Marta Lola Staudinger) concedes that trying to source local is not the easiest way to go about projects like this. “It’s a lot of work,” she says. “I think it’s easier to just pick from a website. When you’re shopping online you can do that in a fourth of the time.” But having pulled it off once, she’s itching to do it again and utilize even more local artists she’s discovered. As she puts it, “could you imagine what kind of creative economy we would have if every building you went in featured 20 local artists’ work?”
Cheers to many more projects like this one!!! Tagging as many artists as we can who are a part of this amazing project in the photo. // Full article below!!

Avec on H Street will hang art that’s all made by local artists.

Let’s talk about *RITUALS* with :: Spirituality & the External Self
Untitled, Second Skin Series
Archival Inkjet Print on Moab Cotton Rag Paper, 2017. 42” x 30”. Edition: 1/1. Price: $850.
“Ashley’s Second Skin Series makes me think about ablution and ritual, and perfection versus purity. Some may agree that in order to be spirituality holistic, we have to be able to balance our interior and exterior selves, and how we show up in the material world. Ashley’s work address the struggle between our interior and exterior selves, and how we perceive ourselves by focusing on the ritual of putting on and taking off make-up. For some, the ritual of putting on make-up serves as a protective shield, a way to hide a perceived flaw and to uphold beauty standards of perfection. While the ablution of removing make-up reveals our exterior skin in its natural truthful form. The markings on the make-up wipes represent scars of the inner struggle of coming to terms with our interior and exterior selves.
Ashley’s process is also very interesting. There was lots of trial and error in figuring out how to convey her message, but it wasn’t until she took off her make with a wipe that the series began to take visual form. After that, she then had to convince people to join her on the project. After receiving a grant to fund her project, she sent over 100 women make-up wipes. And the wipes are still being sent back to her. This was also a turning point for Ashley as an artist and person because it was during the creation of the Second Skin Series that she learned that spirituality also means self-care. She also learned to take risks and experiment as an artist. Which I think speaks to this exhibit’s theme in that sometimes as artists and humans the spiritual path involves peeling back layers and taking risks.” -Notes from the Spiritual Wanderlust exhibition curator -

We are currently at the La Biennale di Venezia and particularly in awe of the contemporary art displayed in such unique palaces! 😻 Just, wow! Like this oil on canvas painting by Cuban Artist Carlos Quintana as part of his exhibition ‘In Finito’ at Palazzo Loredan. The juxtaposition of contemporary painting in this 15th century Gothic palace is incredibly pleasing to experience. // Tune in to our stories for more Biennale vibes!
