Marjorie Merriweather Post’s staff was quite devoted to her, so much so that to express their appreciation, 100 staff members purchased a flagpole in honor of her 75th birthday. The flagpole was dedicated at Hillwood in 1962. At the official presentation ceremony, former security guard Charles Cronk said, “Your deeds speak far better than I can say. On behalf of all the employees over the years, I ask you, Mrs. May, to accept this flagpole as a token of our esteem and gratitude.”

Fall in the Friendship Walk and Four Seasons Overlook 🍂

This painting was one of two created by Mrs. Bissett Norment for the dedication of the Friendship Walk in November 1957. The pair depicted the space in the spring and the fall and were displayed at the ceremony, as the walk had not yet been completed. It was said, “through our imagination we have pictured a circle outlined with evergreens and blooming shrubbery, which could act as a dramatic axis for statuary.”
