The iconic mural at Ben’s Chili Bowl is coming down after nearly a decade, and as part of their May 1 grand reopening, they’re launching .

They’re asking YOU who should be honored next. From artists and activists to DC legends, athletes, and historical figures—all ideas are welcome (even past honorees!).

The countdown is on—filmmakers have until May 9 to submit!
The Valley Place Arts Collaborative is bringing back Anacostia Shorts 2026, its fourth annual short film contest in partnership with the Open Road Film Festival. This celebration of storytelling highlights films shot in Anacostia or rooted in the community, with a special welcome to creators from across the DMV.

🎨 Honfleur Gallery Announces Its Next Exhibition: Life in Wood: Anacostia River Walk 🎨

Valley Place Arts Collaborative, in collaboration with Honfleur Gallery, proudly presents Life in Wood: Anacostia River Walk—a landmark exhibition honoring the life, legacy, and six-decade artistic practice of DC cultural artist John Zaire El-Badr Cauley, curated by Luis Del Valle.

This exhibition offers a moment to pause and step away from the noise—inviting visitors to immerse themselves in art, culture, and poetry. Working with driftwood gathered from the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers, El-Badr incorporates ancient gilding techniques, 24-karat gold leaf, shells, found objects, and personal artifacts. Each piece carries history within its grain.

In commemoration of Black History Month, the exhibition also features El-Badr’s Collage Collection (1990–1995), honoring the visual legacy of Ebony, Jet, and Essence magazines, alongside selections from his Black History stamp archive.

The Anacostia Shorts Annual Film Festival is now accepting submissions for its 2026 program, taking place May 30–June 1, 2026. This three-day hybrid festival celebrates short films by DMV filmmakers while also showcasing selected national and international work.

The festival includes two in-person screenings on Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31, held at Honfleur Gallery, followed by filmmaker Q&As, and a virtual screening on Monday, June 1, live streamed on Open Road’s YouTube channel with limited-time on-demand access.

Local filmmakers competing in the Anacostia Shorts Competition are eligible for cash prizes, including $1,000 for first place, while all selected films will be considered for Best of the Fest and Audience Favorite awards.

This Valentine’s Day, slow down and turn inward at Honfleur Gallery with Sacred Self Love: Valentine’s Candlelit Kemetic Yoga & Meditation—an intimate wellness experience devoted to rest, reflection, and embodied care.

Sponsored by Honfleur Gallery and Nubian Hueman, this intentional evening brings together candlelit Kemetic Smai-Tawi yoga, Qigong, sound bath meditation, reflective journaling, and a DIY tea bar. Designed as a ceremonial gathering, the experience reframes Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to practice self-love through movement, stillness, and community.

Guided by Ngozi Burrell, participants will also create a communal altar—an act of devotion to the Self and collective care.

Meet T Yuan Chi Nicholson: Artist Talk + Live Q&A at Honfleur Gallery on Saturday, January 3rd at 2pm! Free event!

Terence Nicholson is a native Washingtonian and longtime Anacostia resident whose creative practice spans visual art, music, and Chinese martial arts. A multidisciplinary artist, Nicholson’s visual work has been exhibited at Honfleur Gallery, Willow Street Gallery in Takoma, Strathmore, and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, where his work is currently featured in the Sightlines exhibition.

Beyond the gallery, Nicholson has earned international recognition in Chinese martial arts, receiving multiple medals in Kung Fu competitions and teaching the discipline for more than 30 years. His lifelong commitment to martial arts deeply informs his artistic approach, blending physical discipline with a Taoist-influenced philosophical framework.

Nicholson is also the frontman of the DC rock band Thaylobleu, whose cultural legacy is preserved in Washington, DC history through inclusion in the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library’s permanent exhibit on Go-Go and Hardcore Punk.

Honfleur Gallery is pleased to present In No Certain Order, a solo exhibition featuring recent works by multidisciplinary artist Terence Nicholson ( T Yuan Chi Nicholson).

Unlike Nicholson’s previous exhibitions, You Can’t Unring the Bell and The Eternal Echo, which centered on singular themes, In No Certain Order embraces experimentation, process, and creative risk.

The exhibition brings together assemblages, video works, mixed media on Plexiglas and other unconventional materials, alongside traditional canvases — highlighting Nicholson’s ongoing exploration of materiality while staying rooted in the raw, expressive nature of his practice.
