Our current feature show is “Nature is My Muse“ showcasing a collection of nature inspired watercolors by Phyllis Northup. We also have work by all members up for you to enjoy! Here are a couple of watercolors in the feature show and some thoughts behind them….

“This close up look at a hosta leaf celebrates the intricate patterns found in nature if we take the time to notice! The rich variety of different greens are all around us, just like in this hosta. Look around next time you are outside, it’s not just green but a rich tapestry of many greens! Next time you find a fern, stoop down and take a close look at the shapes and growth patterns!”

Digital artist Jim Serbent has two new works on display as well as two earlier pieces derived from electronically-enhanced photography. The newer archival prints are from his ongoing Bardoseries where transitional “mindscapes” challenge conventional thought processes.

We have a group show up with work by all members in addition to our feature show “Nature is My Muse“ a collection of Phyllis Northup’s watercolors inspired by nature. Wayne Paige is showing two oil paintings on canvas, “Smoke, Mirrors and Other Illusions” and “The Road Home”. Here is a great insight into these pieces as written by Elan Magazine.

“There was a forest fire in Chester Gap one afternoon, as Wayne Paige drove home from his job teaching in Middleburg. Across the normally verdant Blue Ridge, there was nothing but orange flames, gray smoke, black ash. To Wayne, it looked as though nature was conducting utter devastation within a limited color palette. It impressed him. And almost immediately, a new vocabulary of images came forth from a man who had previously engaged in art as varied as black-and-white photorealism and vivid dreamscapes.”

Our current feature show is “Nature is My Muse“ showcasing a collection of nature inspired watercolors by Phyllis Northup. We also have work by all members up for you to enjoy! Jo Levine is showing two photographs, "Reaching Out" and "Reflections". Here are her insights about them….

“I took both photos at the U.S. Botanical Garden in downtown DC. "Reaching Out" shows a ground-hugging succulent that reminds me of an undersea creature reaching towards an unknown object. "Reflections" depicts water inside pitcher plants that captures reflections of the conservatory's glass ceiling.”
