Our current show is “Tangled Virginia“, a collection of works by Alexia Scott and Fae Penland. You don’t want to miss this one! We also have a group show up featuring work by all member artists.
Here are three of the pieces Fae has chosen to include in her collection, “Late Summer Tangle I” “ Late Summer Tangle ll” and “Garden Glory”.

“One of the benefits of belonging to the art collective Middle Street gallery is the opportunity to drive away from the traffic and into the rolling hills of the Rappahannock. There I became intrigued with the colors and patterns in the land. Especially grass.
I loved looking at how the light and wind interacted with the tall blades. I enjoyed thinking about it’s ephemeral nature, the diaphanous structures, the life cycles, and where it tended to grow. I also thought about how people are much like the grass, indeed “how we differ from the rocks”.
When I chose to start drawing the grass I wanted to understand it’s structure and how it interacted with the other grass. I chose black ink for the drawings and collage to represent it’s life process of growth, maturity, and seeds.
I too, like Alexia, look to nature to guide my art. I observe how plants move and change, how it protects the land and is a benefit to the wildlife.”
