🔥⚒️ Step inside Sam Jones’ blacksmith shop — 1914 ⚒️🔥

This incredible photo gives us a rare look *inside* the very blacksmith shop featured on our new mural!

We knew a blacksmith shop had to be included in the artwork because, for generations, blacksmiths were absolutely essential to community life. They repaired tools, shoed horses, crafted hardware, fixed wagons, and kept daily life moving in growing towns like Camas and Washougal.

Before modern machine shops and mass production, the local blacksmith was often the person who could build or repair almost anything. 🔨

Photos like this remind us just how much skilled hands helped shape our community’s history. 💙

From murals to artistic details you may have walked past without noticing, art has long been part of the local stories we share and preserve here at 2RHM.

📸 A bird’s-eye view of Camas history! 📸

This 1950 aerial photo of Crown Zellerbach, which is just one of several names that the Camas Paper Mill has been known by over the decades, shows a wider view with all roads in Camas seeming to lead to the paper mill. The fact that the name on the outside of the building changed often enough is one of the reasons why you'll hear many locals simply refer to it as “The Mill.”

The landscape of The Mill may be changing, but its impact on the founding, growth, history, and even the present-day identity of Camas will never fade. Generations of families built their lives around its whistles, shifts, and steady presence along the river.

For many, The Mill isn’t just the local industry, it’s memories, community, and home 💙

👀 Did you or someone in your family work there? Did you ever get to take a class tour there? Share your stories and memories of The Mill below!

As we walk through 2RHM, we're reminded that it’s the little details that make history feel alive...! 💙

These charming cartoon characters, painstakingly sewn onto a dishtowel long ago, remind us of something wonderfully simple: people have always been people.

Long before memes, emojis, and doodles in notebooks, people still found ways to add humor, personality, and creativity to everyday life. Even ordinary household items carried touches of joy and self-expression. 🥰

History isn’t just found in major events, it’s tucked into the small, playful moments people left behind. ✨

Do you remember the iconic Goot Barn...? 👀

Not only was this barn an iconic structure, helping locals give relative directions (things like, "Out by the Goot Barn!"), but it's also featured on our new mural!

🇺🇸 Remembering those who served 🇺🇸

This photo of local army recruits from 1917 reminds us of the generations of men and women who answered the call to serve their country.

While Memorial Day is often seen as the beginning of summer, a long weekend filled with gatherings, travel, and sunshine, it is also something much deeper.

Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

As we enjoy the holiday weekend, we also pause to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many in communities just like ours.

📰✨ Hot off the presses: history is alive and well! ✨📰

This 1913 photo of the Camas Paper Mill reminds us just how deeply the mill is woven into the story of our community. More than a century later, The Mill still stands as part of Camas’s identity.

There may be changes happening, but we are still proudly the home of the Papermakers 💙

For generations, families in Camas and Washougal built their lives around the mill: working long shifts, supporting local businesses, and helping shape the special community that we know and love today.

👀 Did you or someone you know work at the mill? We’d love to hear your stories, memories, and family connections in the comments!
