ON VIEW NOW | SANFORD BIGGERS: DRIFT | Featuring new textile works, prints, sculptures, and site-responsive installations, Sanford Biggers: Drift is the artist’s first major solo museum exhibition on the East End. Fascinated by the ways that materials and symbols become charged with spiritual, cultural, and personal significance, Sanford Biggers (b. 1970, Los Angeles, CA) draws on a diverse range of influences, ranging from Buddhism and Los Angeles graffiti culture to Gee’s Bend quilts and his own collection of African sculpture.

The exhibition features work from Biggers’ series of illuminated cloud sculptures titled Unsui (Cloud Forest) (2025), which draws on Japanese, European, and American art traditions; it also includes works from Biggers’ ongoing Codex series—sculptures and paintings made from repurposed antique quilts, and showcases a new site-specific floor-based sand installation inspired by prayer rugs, breakdance floors, and Japanese Buddhist mandalas.

Sanford Biggers: Drift is on view now through September 13th. Learn more here:

FRESH PAINT: EMMI WHITEHORSE | OPENS JUNE 4 | The seventh installment of the Museum’s collaborative FRESH PAINT exhibition series with The FLAG Art Foundation presents a new diptych painting by artist Emmi Whitehorse (Diné, b. 1957 in Crownpoint, NM), titled Reseeding Chaco (2026).

Whitehorse’s paintings reflect the Navajo worldview of Hózhó, which the artist describes as “a harmonious balance of beauty, nature, humanity, and the whole universe.” While her works evoke a sense of stillness, it is the fleeting moments of nature that speak to Whitehorse: ripples on the water’s surface, insects moving, and grasses swaying in the wind. The constellations of forms that emerge and sink into her painted surfaces are a reminder of the transitory nature of life.

PANEL DISCUSSION | MAY 24 | Join us for a conversation between artist Sara Siestreem (Hanis Coos) and members of the Shinnecock Kelp Farmers to celebrate their collaborative work presented in the exhibition Regeneration: Long Island’s History of Ecological Art and Care.

The Shinnecock Kelp Farmers are an intergenerational collective of Indigenous women who are restoring the ancestral Shinnecock tradition of seaweed harvesting to address pollution in local waters. Drawing on Siestreem’s myriad processes, the works created for Regeneration reflect her collaboration with the Shinnecock Kelp Farmers and their shared emphasis on Indigenous land rights, community engagement, and ecological restoration.
