Good news! We're in the process of incorporating as a non-profit educational organization. We're half way to the goal of raising $1,500 (with $750 donated by the Brass City Local police union). This will cover the lawyers fee and IRS application.

If you would like to contribute towards incorporating the Police & Fire Museum of Waterbury as a non-profit educational organization, kindly write checks to "The Committee for a New Waterbury" subject line "For Police & Fire Museum" (an envelope will be left at the front desk at the Waterbury Police Department where you can hand in any donation checks). If you have items or photos you would like to donate, please email: [email protected] or speak to me, Ofc. DeVaull.

Thank you for your support!

We are pleased to announce the acquisition of a very rare piece of WFD history. This Waterbury Fire Department Alarm directory was printed in 1898 by the Waterbury Blank Book Mfg. Co. The booklet, which measures approximately 3.5" x 5", lists the numbers and locations of every box alarm in the city at that time, along with the corresponding response assignment for each alarm.

Retired New Britain firefighter Nick Romaniello, a plumber by trade, uncovered this item inside the wall of a Waterbury home undergoing renovations that he was working on during the late 1970s. He placed the book in a plastic slipcover and stowed it in a safe, where it's been sitting for nearly four decades.

Nick is in the process of moving out of state, but saw the article on the Waterbury Police & Fire Museum that ran in last Saturday's edition of the Republican-American and thankfully decided to donate this item to us. The booklet itself is extremely fragile, with the cover suffering separation from the inner pages and significant deterioration. We will be taking this to a paper conservator to make sure it is archived and preserved properly.

Thank you very much Nick for donating this wonderful and extremely rare piece of Waterbury history!
