Courier 1963
The stone wall which was between the old bank building and the old furniture store was removed from this site last week when it was being readied for the new fire station building. A new cement wall has been poured allowing for basement storage under a portion of the new building. This week filling was hauled to make ready for the pouring of the floor. It is hoped that the $77,000 building can be roofed by the first of the year and that the building might be completed six months from the time it was started in April.

This is an early N. Monroe St. photo circa 1890. The sign seen on the building, now known as the Bibow Bldg. on the corner of N. Monroe and W. Madison St. says Dr. Torphy. The next building sign reads C.F. Nisle, Undertaking, Furniture. This building has now been replaced by the brick Wendt Building which is currently Hartwig's Diner. The small sign between the two balcony building reads Dr. Davis and the protruding sign found under the last balcony building reads T. Failinger, Gen. Merchandise.
