For a long time I’ve seen this large metal piece in the lot at the corner of Cleveland and Cedar Streets and wondered what it is. Recently saw this old picture from “Main St, Waterman”. Doesn’t the piece circled look like the Cleveland St thing?!?

Did you know that today is Dr. Robert Purdy’s birthday and that he would have been 100 years old today? Happy Birthday, Doctor Purdy!! And thank you and your wife, Lois, for donating the Purdy Park land to the residents of Shabbona. Our committee is determined to make it a place where we can all come back together as a family community.

Waterman Summer Fest (sponsored by Waterman Lions Club) is Saturday, July 18 at Lions Park. The Heritage plans to have a booth this year and happy to say Waterman Ornaments have been ordered!! We’ll also have copies of the 1998 cookbook as well as the Centennial Books from 1977.
**We will not take preorders for ornaments.

We have the cast iron stove from the Waterman train depot (donated by the Sjolund family). We’d like to add some pics around our display….would anyone have some old pictures of family at the depot that we could get a copy??

In a 1952 article in the DeKalb Chronicle, it states the first Memorial Day, Decoration Day, observed in DeKalb County took place in 1869 in Johnson Grove Cemetery (Clinton Township).
In 1907 the siege gun of the Civil War was dedicated as a monument to the old soldiers. In 2018, the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War rededicated the monument after refurbishing the cannon and reconstructing the cannonballs.
The platbook maps are from 1892.
