Even if you are not signed up for the cemetery tours, the Sturdevant Historical House Museum IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FOR TOURS TONIGHT from 4:30pm-8:30pm.

Come and meet Lafayette and Sarah Sturdevant in character on the front porch, get a tour of the house, go on our scavenger hunt, try out the inventions of the time, or play "What is it?" or What is it used for?" and have refreshments!

We are one of the host sites for the Waverly Chamber Of Commerce GHOULS NIGHT OUT BINGO AND PRIZES:

SHOP IN OUR STURDEVANT HOUSE GIFT SHOP: antiques, antique books, kids items, a kid oriented 250th Themed basket of items, and our new EXCLUSIVELY SOLD AT THE STURDEVANT HOUSE ONLY "Waverly, Iowa" T-shirts in many colors, or custom order color, size and type. (Shipping is extra).

In time for Christmas! Or shop our hand knitted wool and alpaca mittens, scarves, shopping bags, etc.

Something for everyone!!!!

Take advantage of the museum being open the next few weeks only, before we close for the winter and our bathroom/electrical remodeling starts!!!

The Sturdevant House, 502 1st St. SW will be open for tours, refreshments, and an encounter with the characters of Lafayette and Sarah Sturdevant starting at 4:30pm-8:30pm.

On the cemetery tour, hear the stories of generations who served, sacrificed, and left their mark on Waverly and Bremer County. Bring your family, support local history, and help us keep these stories alive for generations to come!

We had an out of town family that has a goal to visit historic sites in all 99 counties! Yesterday was Bremer County and we opened our doors to show them what we do! They had a great time with the scavenger hunt at the Bremer County Historical Society Musem and at the Ira and Asenath Sturdevant House Living History Hands-on museum they churned butter, then had it with Pioneer Blackberry Jam on homemade bread for a treat. Then we did a "What is it and What was it used for" quiz! What a great time we all had. Interested in private tours for your group? Contact us for more info!

A big shout out to this awesome girl scout group who learned about pioneer life and Laura Ingalls Wilder at a private event at the Bremer County Historical Society and the Ira and Asenath Sturdevant House! At the museum they learned about Laura's life, pioneer cabin living, writing with ink and quill pens, wax stamping, made marble bags, were given free marbles, a shooter marble and played marble games. At the Sturdevant House they had the opportunity to play more pioneer games: Tiddly Winks, Pick Up Sticks, Quoits, made Tin Punch ornaments, churned butter 3 different ways, and learned about making Pioneer Blackberry Jam to bottle and take home! We had homemade bread, fresh churned butter, jam and warm apple c***r. Such a fun time!
