This discussion examines the contributions of Thomson and Matlack, whose administrative and intellectual work was essential to the American Revolution yet largely overlooked in traditional stories. By tracing their intertwined careers, Teti will highlight how the Revolution depended not only on celebrated leaders but also on the steady, often invisible labor that made independence possible.

Mike Teti is a lifelong enthusiast of early Philadelphia history and an active volunteer, tour guide, and speaker in the region. He serves with organizations such as the Independence Historical Trust, Carpenters’ Hall, Historic Gloria Dei Preservation, the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides, and the American Friends of Lafayette. Mike has led educational tours, organized historical events, and contributed to preservation projects, sharing his knowledge of Philadelphia’s founding era with diverse audiences. His work reflects a deep commitment to preserving and promoting the city’s rich historical heritage.

Refreshments will be served!

Historian Sheilah Vance will discuss her new book highlighting The Gulph Mills Encampment revealing the fascinating details of Washington's and the Continental Army's last stand before they moved into winter quarters at Valley Forge in 1777.

Sheilah Vance, Esq. is an experienced attorney and grew up on Rebel Hill in Gulph Mills, Pennsylvania, and now resides in Washington, D.C. where she practices law. The author holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Howard University and a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University.

A member of the Friends of Valley Forge National Park, Vance has done extensive research on the activities of our local communities during the time of The American Revolution. This NEW non-fiction book is a prequel to an earlier book, Becoming Valley Forge, which is an epic historical novel that shows how the lives of ordinary women and men who lived in the shadow of Valley Forge were forever changed during The Philadelphia Campaign in mid-1777, when the Revolutionary War battles came to their doorsteps.

To really understand a city, one must know its food. Regional dishes reveal the cultures, values, resources and ingenuity of people past and present. Along with some interesting history, Madaio tells the stories of the city’s iconic sandwiches and the boisterous, clever and hardworking people behind them.
