The past few weeks have been a whirlwind, but thanks to your incredible support, we’ve weathered the storm together.

Because of the generosity of our community, hundreds of YOUR donations poured in to help us tackle our sewer issues. We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to EQT who made a considerably large donation, and The County of Greene for a large contribution also, and everyone else who stepped up to help make these critical repairs possible. Phase One repairs are now underway, and once completed, we’ll officially be back in business! Phase Two — which will include exterior excavation and additional work — will begin shortly afterward. There will also be a phase 3 later in the year.

We are excited to announce that we will reopen to the public on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 10:00 AM! We will close on the 6th at 4PM and will then resume our normal schedule.

To celebrate and thank our community, we’ll be hosting a community cookout featuring a small menu of free food and drinks. We’re also thrilled to welcome Danielle Nylund for a special meet-and-greet featuring the bell she designed and created for the Pennsylvania 250th Celebration.

We also want to give a HUGE thank you to the Eagles Club for hosting a Cash Bash fundraiser for us on August 2nd. We’ll have a table set up during our June 6 reopening event where tickets will be available for purchase. Proceeds from the Cash Bash and future fundraising will help cover the remaining sewer and foundation repair costs and, hopefully, move us one step closer to replacing the roofs on several of our buildings.

From the bottom of our hearts — THANK YOU. Your kindness, encouragement, and support mean the world to us, and we cannot wait to welcome everyone back on June 6th!

The folks at the Eagles are truly amazing people!

If you’re interested in purchasing a ticket, many local businesses throughout Waynesburg will have them available. If you’re outside the area and would like a ticket, send us an email at [email protected], and we’ll gladly make arrangements to get one to you.

We’re also excited to share that we will likely have a reopening date by the end of this week, including some announcements and special thank-yous — fingers crossed!

Once we reopen, we’ll be set up with a table at the museum on our first Saturday open to sell tickets, and we may even have a few surprises in store as well.

Again, all of us at the Greene County Historical Society want to thank all of you — along with our local businesses and organizations — for the incredible support. We truly appreciate this community!

Dear Friends,

As we approach a summer marked by the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence—and celebrations across Pennsylvania through programs such as America250PA—we regret to share that, due to unforeseen building issues, we must delay our opening for the 2026 season.

Earlier last week, we experienced a major failure in our sewer system, resulting in a significant backup in the basement. The building’s sewer lines, which date to 1886, have reached the end of their lifespan and require extensive replacement.

Without reliable and fully functioning restroom facilities, we are unable to safely open to the public.

The estimated cost to address the sewer issue is between $20,000 and $40,000. In addition, we are exploring funding options for other critical needs, including failing roofs on our main building and foundation repairs.

While we typically perform maintenance and repairs in-house to reduce costs, these projects require specialized expertise to be completed safely and effectively.

Unfortunately, the urgency of these repairs limits our ability to secure grant funding, as most programs cannot provide funds within the timeframe needed to meet our scheduled opening. The primary grant opportunity available for these types of repairs will not be awarded until spring 2027.

In response, we are launching a fundraising campaign with a goal of $50,000. These funds will support immediate repairs and help us begin building the matching funds required for future grant-supported projects, including roof replacements.

We sincerely apologize for not being able to open as planned for the 2026 season—especially during such a significant year in our nation’s history. This decision was not made lightly, but it is necessary to ensure the safety of our visitors and the preservation of our historic buildings for years to come.

Please note that this is not a permanent closure. We are committed to reopening as soon as funding is secured and the necessary repairs are completed, and we look forward to welcoming you back.

We deeply appreciate your understanding and continued support are look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,
The Greene County Historical Society

Help our friends at the Marshall County Historical Society get into their new home.

The past few years for Historical Societies have been tough times. Funding such organizations has always been a challenge but the last few years have been more challenging.

These guys do good work. Help them out.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Link To Donate: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/help-us-move

We are looking to move the Marshall County History Museum! For 30 years, the Marshall County Historical Society has called 301 13th Street home. However, over the years, we have outgrown our building.

With thousands of artifacts from over 400 donors and no storage space, it is hard to host our own events on our property. It is also nearly impossible to be able to fully tell the story of Marshall County and the people who have called it home since before West Virginia even became a state!

Our eyes are set on the historic Bloyd House located at 600 Tomlinson Avenue, directly across the street from the courthouse. We need your help! We have set up a Zeffy fundraiser and hope to be able to use it to help us buy our new home.

What is Zeffy?
Zeffy is an online fundraising site, similar to GoFundMe. Unlike many other fundraising sites, however, Zeffy gives 100% of the donation you give to us! They add a "Zeffy fee" to keep themselves operational, but this is completely optional. You are able to set the amount you would donate to Zeffy to $0!

How To Help?
We appreciate any support you able to provide in order to move the hub of the historical society to the center of town. Because we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, your donations are tax deductible! Donations of $1,000+ will be added to a donor plaque that will be displayed in the new museum.

If you are unable to donate, please help us spread the word! Be sure to share and tell your friends about our mission to better preserve the history of Marshall County!
