Old Stagecoach Stop Museum and Foundation

Old Stagecoach Stop Museum and Foundation The 2026 Tour Season will begin April 4 through October 31 Saturdays 10:00am-4:00pm. FREE admission on Saturdays. It was built by W.W. McDonald in the mid-1850s.

Scheduled group tours, $2 per person on Mon-Fri and Sunday. The Old Stagecoach Stop Foundation was formed to preserve, restore, protect and maintain the historic structure in Waynesville, Missouri, known as the "Old Stagecoach Stop" in order to permit its educational value to be appreciated by future generations. The Old Stagecoach Stop is the oldest building in Pulaski County. His hotel, origina

lly a double pen log building, was a stop on the St. Louis to Springfield stage route. A "lean-to" on the back of the building and a second story were added, probably in the 1880s. Each of the 10 rooms has been restored to a different significant period in building's past, from its beginnings as a residence and tavern on the Western frontier of the 1850s through its final chapter as a boarding house for soldiers and their wives in the early 1960s. The changes in the building's ownership and uses reflect the history of our local community, including the impacts of the Civil War, the completion of the railroad through Pulaski County, and the construction of Ft Leonard Wood. We invite you to visit us for a guided tour, or to simply take a step back in time as you walk through the rooms and view the period furnishings. For more information, or to schedule a group tour, please contact Jeanie Porter at 573-336-3561.

The Square will soon be a busy place this morning. The Horseless Carriage Club from St. Louis came to town last evening to see the Neon Park and this morning from 10:30am to 1:00pm they will be parked around the square. They are visiting the museums and dining. If you love seeing A’s, T’s and classic cars, drive thru town and visit with them. They love showing off their cars.

There have been some question as to the fate of the 2026 Old Settlers Gazette due to the cancellation of Old Settlers Day. I thought I’d address the question here.

The cancellation will not affect the publication. The 2026 Old Settlers Gazette is produced by the Old Stagecoach Stop Foundation. Though KJPW started it and distributed it during Old Settlers Day, we feel it is still viable as an annual historical tabloid about Pulaski County History. We were so appreciative to be able to continue it when the radio station was sold and those at the station weren’t able to continue to produce it. As for the OSS publication, volunteers do it all, from writing the articles, the lay out, designing the ads, selling the ads, and delivering to our advertisers. It goes to Lone Oak, print ready, and Tim shepherds it through that phase. All of the profit goes to the OSS. It has kept our building open and allowed us to maintain it and make improvements. The 2026 issue is almost complete. Our ad sales start next week and we have our proof and print deadlines from Tim. We will begin delivery to our advertisers on Monday, July 20th. Then the digital version will be placed on our OSS website. The website has all of the Gazettes on line, 1983 through 2025. The link is below for those who might not be aware of this research tool.

At its March meeting, the Old Stagecoach Stop Foundation Board of Directors, with regret and appreciation, accepted the resignation of President Jeanie Porter. Jeanie and husband Gary are moving to Tennessee. Jeanie has been active in many nonprofit organizations in the county and has devoted untold hours furthering the mission of the Old Stagecoach Stop. Jeanie joined the Board of Directors in 2011 and also served as a tour guide. She used her sales skills selling ads for the Gazette and applied her leadership skills as President from 2016-2026 .

Vice President Jan Primas presented Jeanie with a plaque which reads:

A free showing of “Out There: A National Parks Story” will be held on Saturday, March 14 at 3:00 pm in Pulaski County Courthouse, 301 Historic Route 66, Waynesville, MO 65583. The 75-minute documentary will be followed by guest speakers Jody Eberle, retired from the National Forest Service, speaking on public lands, and Mark Van Patten, retired from the Missouri Department of Conservation and National Park Service, speaking on Ozark National Scenic Riverways. A stunning visual tribute and grassroots love letter, “Out There” reimagines what it means to find belonging in the natural world, and the power of public lands to bring us back to ourselves.

Many of you are already aware of the new roof that was just installed on the Old Stagecoach Stop. This was the most expensive improvement to the structure the Foundation has made since its inception. Most of the cost was funded by a $25,000 donation by former Waynesville resident Louise Morgan, who now resides in California. Louis remarked that "...even though decades have passed since I was actively involved with the organization, and even though I have moved far away from the area, the OSS remains a meaningful endeavor that is worthy of continued support." Many thanks to Louise for her generosity.
