From splashdown to celebration — Apollo 10’s successful return to Earth marked the final chapter of an extraordinary eight-day journey around the Moon.

At 11:53 a.m. CDT on May 26, 1969, astronauts Thomas P. Stafford, John W. Young, and Eugene A. Cernan splashed down safely in the South Pacific, where recovery teams from the USS Princeton welcomed them home after one of NASA’s most ambitious missions to date.

As we conclude our Apollo 10 anniversary celebration, we remember the dedication, teamwork, and exploration spirit that made this mission a lasting milestone in spaceflight history.

On this Memorial Day, we remember the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

Their courage and service will never be forgotten. We also extend our gratitude to the veterans and active-duty service members who serve and have served our country with honor.

Today, May 25, 2026, we proudly welcome veterans, active-duty service members, and their immediate families to enjoy FREE admission to the museum as a small gesture of appreciation for your service and sacrifice.

We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate the history, courage, and spirit of those who have shaped our nation.

Not every hero of spaceflight leaves the ground. 🌎🚀

This partial view of the Mission Operations Control Room captures the incredible activity on the first day of Apollo 10’s lunar orbit mission.

While astronauts Thomas P. Stafford, John W. Young, and Eugene A. Cernan traveled through space, the teams on the ground worked around the clock to make the mission possible. In a small, but memorable detail, Charlie Brown and Snoopy figurines can even be seen perched atop one of the computers — a reminder of the humanity behind the headsets.

Today we're celebrating the engineers, controllers, and support staff whose work made the Apollo 10 mission possible.
