I would like to thank the Historical Society for all they have done for preserving history and letting a little kid see the wonders of what our town was then giving me the opportunity to try my best to help out the society as board member , president, vice president and giving me keys to lots of cool stuff so I could show it to the kids of today. As of 7:30 this evening I turned in those keys and stepped away from the board atleast for a little while. Thank you all. - Charlie Cover

The Heritage Trail Walk is a 3.2-mile, self-guided tour featuring 17 sites that highlight our town’s history. Along the route is the new Gibson‑Rhodes Depot, where interpretive signs explain how the railroad and depot contributed to Weeping Water’s growth and success. Grab a map at the campground, the museum complex sign on H Street (between Commercial & Randolph), the city office, or at the gazebo on Eldora Avenue, or download a copy from www.weepingwaterhistory.org.

Step back to 1872 and listen to a chautauqua portrayal of the chief engineer of the B & M Railroad and famous Hoosac Tunnel Project. Doane was responsible for 240 miles of railroad and telegraph from Plattsmouth to Kearney. He was the co-founder of the town of Crete, Nebraska, founder of the first bank in Crete and with the association of the Congregational church, and founder of Doane College in 1872, so named in his honor.

Portrayed by Dr. Thomas N. King, Retired Professor Emeritus of Instructional Design - Doane College, this event is open to the public and free of charge. Humanities Nebraska, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, and the Weeping Water Valley Historical Society as part of the HN Speakers Bureau make this presentation possible.
Saturday, September 27th at the Weeping Water Academy Social Hall, 206 W H Street at 11:00 a.m.
